I am not a racist. Racism is wrong. Let’s tear down all Confederate statues: The Washington Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial. Remove all Confederate graves. What do you want next? There will always be one more demand. Change the name of the country. Design a new flag and remove the national anthem. God help us.

Well, I’m watching Fox News at the moment. And I see there’s a terror attack in Barcelona, Spain, where so far 13 people are dead and 50 or more are injured. I suppose that’s Trump’s fault, too. Everything seems to be Trump’s fault. Nothing was ever Obama’s fault. You know, if you people would just stop for one minute and stop your hatred for this guy, and let him work, and quit blaming everything on him, he might could get something done. Just let him try. I mean, you people talk about how you’re the part of – you want equality, and your peaceful. That’s a big bogus lie. You are not – you do not want equality. And you’re not peaceful at all. As a matter of fact, you’re quite the opposite of peaceful.

Given that North Carolina saw a record tourism dollars in 2016, while House Bill 2 was in full effect, I would have to say that while you may not want to credit HB2 for that record number of tourist dollars, people have got to stop saying that HB2 hurt us economically. Obviously, it didn’t. At the minimum, it may have helped us. At least, that’s what the facts would indicate.

You know what, Kevin Durant, don’t go to the White House. They don’t want you at the White House. You know what? If people like yourself and Michael Bennett and Colin Kaepernick, people like that that keep this country divided, don’t go. Don’t stand for the national anthem, I don’t care anymore. I’m just about ready to sell everything I own and get the flip out of this country so you fools can have it. So don’t go. If you don’t want to go, don’t go. Good for you. Stand up for what you believe in. You know, it’s your right. Certainly is your right. So, I’m just over it.

Let me see if I have this right. Black people who were never slaves are fighting white people who were never Nazis over a Confederate statue erected by a Democrat. Because Democrats can’t stand their own history anymore. And, somehow, it’s Trump’s fault. I don’t understand.

It’s very strange when a news organization commissions a public opinion poll and then ignores the result and never mentions it. But that happened when NPR – national progressive radio – commissioned a poll to find out how Americans felt about the removal of Confederate statues from the public arena. Much to the dismay and chagrin of the PC progressives of taxpayer funded radio, it turned out that 62 percent of Americans want the statues of Confederate heroes to remain, while just 27 percent want them removed. We only know this from third party media sources, since NPR has been strangely silent about their own poll. Sometimes you just have to laugh at liberals and how clueless and out of touch they are, notwithstanding their mien of smug self-assured superiority. Just sign me off as An Independent Thinker.

Yes, I don’t see where knocking over statues is going to help anybody. I think the folks in Durham are a bunch of mad dogs to be knocking over a statue from a war that’s been over for 150 years. It just doesn’t make sense. If everybody is so concerned about slavery, why don’t they channel all that energy they got into helping victims of human trafficking, or child abuse, or something like that? I guess knocking over a statue is going to solve all the world’s problems.

A bumper sticker I saw yesterday in the Trinity area more than made my day. It said, simply, “To jail with Bill and Hillary.” The word jail was behind what looked like cell bars. Most fitting for those two disgraceful, ungodly, lying, ultra-liberals on steroids. I believe the two of them will spend the afterlife in a very warm place, hopefully.

I’m so tired of this childish mess that’s going on about our president. They don’t want to give him credit for anything. They want to blame him for everything, including the mess in Charlottesville, Virginia. He wasn’t present. He didn’t have anything to say about it. I wish they would just give it up. This is Joe from Archdale. And I’m tired of all the childishness.

Where do you get all the ideas and comments that you print in your Under the Hammer column? As editor and chief, writer of two or three other columns weekly, attendee at the City Council meetings, etc., I doubt you have the time necessary to do all the research necessary to get that information. Who are you quoting?

It’s pretty sad about what happened over there in Charlottesville. But I just found out from CNN, the driver of the vehicle was a registered Democrat, not a Republican, but a Democrat. And they’re not – the story coming out originally, it was someone upset about all the protesting and statues and everything. But come to find out, it had nothing to even do with the protests. The person was a Democrat. And, apparently, the person was intoxicated. And they’re being charged with manslaughter from what I understand. But, apparently, he just happened to be someone that wasn’t in their right mind that drove into a group of people that were doing an illegal protest. So, I don’t know exactly if you could charge that individual with something.

Southern Guilford here. If Guilford County can’t find management to properly operate an animal shelter, then what does that say about the other facilities or important matters Greensboro and Guilford County are in responsible for? Poor management always leads to poor quality. Otis says hello.

I’m calling about the Charlottesville, situation. They want Trump to come out and disavow the white supremacists and the neo-Nazis and all that. Well, I understand that. But where was all these senators, and all these people that are coming out demanding Donald Trump to come out and disavow all these people? Where was all these big-mouth senators when all these Black Lives Matters folks was down in New York screaming, “pigs in the blanket, fry them like bacon? What do we want? Dead cops. When do we want them? Now.” Where were they at when all that was going on? This is a double standard if I’ve ever seen it in my life. And I’m so sick of these senators.

I’ve never known so many people, including the people that distribute this publication, to think they know better than scientists know. If scientists are sure and have done tests, and retested, and they are positive that our climate is changing, then why do you doubt them? Oh, could it be because Al Gore believes in it, and you can’t possibly believe in anything that Al Gore believes, because he was a Democrat. Oh, my. Republicans must know everything, and Democrats don’t know anything. I’m glad y’all are so smart.

Editor’s Note: I don’t know anyone who disputes that the climate is changing. It’s always changing. The question is, how much is man’s activity affecting climate change.

I was reading the August 10 Beep, about the people immigrating to the US. And the last line is like, we can’t provide jobs for our 300 million. Well, as far as the liberal people that want to import all these and invite all these people to immigrate to the US, they don’t care about whether there are jobs or not, because they think the mean old conservative Republicans will just pay more in taxes to pay for all these people that will be on welfare because they can’t find a job. I’m calling with a question that a lot of my friends are wondering about. We are wondering why everything closed down in Greensboro, Guilford County and High Point, but you have the same sweepstakes, fish tables in Burlington, Winston, Kernersville, Thomasville. What is it that makes Guilford County not allow them when you can go less than 20 miles from your house and enjoy the same entertainment?

As much as I detest ultra-West Coast liberal queen Nancy Pelosi, in one respect I actually feel sorry for her. I, like many others, have been noticing obvious changes in her cognitive thinking and speaking recently. I am not a doctor. But her forgetfulness, like not even remembering President Trump’s name, and stopping in mid-sentence in front of the press while she searches for the right words, is eerily similar to the initial signs my dear late mother displayed, and it only got worse over time. She passed away after battling dementia, after eight hellish years, in 2007. For my mother and myself, I described it as a trip through the twilight zone. This shows Alzheimer’s dementia doesn’t play favorites with the rich and famous, like the late Glen Campbell.

It was most interesting to see on a recent Fox 8 TV news interview with the Rev. Nelson Johnson of Greensboro showing a small scar on his left arm that he reportedly received after being stabbed during the Klan-Nazi march in Greensboro in 1979. That scar is mighty suspicious and closely resembles a tailpipe burn from hiding underneath a car during the confrontation. Is there any medical evidence in the reverend’s favor?

Channel 8 has just interviewed Nelson Johnson from Greensboro, and he’s showing where he was stabbed during the Klan shootout that they had in 1979. But they forgot one important thing. I witnessed this with my own eyes, and heard it with my own ears. About two days before that shootout, he’s on Channel 2 television inviting the Klan to come out from under the rocks where they were hiding. I told someone at that time, there’s going to be some trouble there. And I was right. They forgot that part.

Hi. I’d like to say this. For the Democrat that’s in Missouri that’s calling for Donald Trump’s assassination, I think she needs to step down. And I think the Secret Service needs to put her in jail. Not only that, the taxpayers are paying her to be there. And I think it’s time for her to go. Also, too, for these Hollywood movie stars that are going to boycott Donald Trump’s, that dinner, for the JFK dinner, I think that’s dirty. You know, the American people put these Hollywood movie stars where they’re at, and they have totally, completely forgotten that. And I think that it’s time that American people started looking at who they support and who they don’t support. And I think that these Hollywood stars have got the big head. And they think that they can do whatever they want to do, and they can just push the American people down.

Charlottesville, Virginia, was a terrible tragedy. No one denies that. Our president came out and denounced racism and bigotry in any way. Of course, it wasn’t good enough for CNN. They continue to stir the pot to cause protests and to cause more trouble. They are not journalists on that program. They are the face of pure evil. They continue, continue, continue, continue to bash our president no matter what he does or says. Please, do not buy the products that they advertise during the commercials, and let’s put them out of business. This news network is not made of journalists. They’re made up of propaganda spreaders. They are face of pure, pure evil. They continue to cause trouble. Please do not ever watch them.

This is a comment on the mess in Charlottesville. Is there any difference between ISIS and what they’re doing trying to destroy history in the Charlottesville City Council, what they’re doing? We don’t have to look too far from home. If you look at the Greensboro City Council, the recent change of Lee Street. Does anybody really realize what happened there? They had to get rid of that Lee Street. There’s more to come. Just keep looking.

As a former Vietnam veteran, a history teacher and a school administrator, I’d like to say, let’s tear all the things down. For example, let’s tear down the General Greene statute. He was a friend of George Washington, who was a slave owner. Then let’s go up to Monticello. Let’s go to Mount Vernon. Let’s take down all those Vietnam memorials, because, hey, weren’t they about poor whites and poor blacks? Let’s just keep going. How about baseball? Baseball didn’t allow black players until the ’50s. Let’s tear down baseball. Let’s tear down Cooperstown. Let’s go down to the Grasshoppers ballpark and ransack that. That’s a symbol of slavery and all discrimination. You can just keep on going and going. It’s amazing. The Communist Workers’ Party walks down the street in Durham and the media plays them out to be heroes.

There was a group of people toppled over the Confederate monument. The Durham police was notified before the statue was pulled down off its pedestal. And they refused to come out because they said that it was under the sheriff’s department jurisdiction. Now, my point of view is this, I thought when you were in law enforcement, and laws were being broken, you are supposed to take some kind of response to reduce that. That didn’t make any sense. Now, had some of those people that opposed that statue, or as far as keeping it up, had shown up and there had been a melee …

Watching these monuments coming down in Durham, that’s a disgrace for everybody, black and white. Why don’t they leave the statues alone? They’re not bothering anybody. That’s history. That’s all it is is history. Every time they take away a statue, let’s take away something Martin Luther King. He would turn over in his grave if he’d seen what these people are doing today. Do away with these streets. Do away with Black History Month. Every time you do something to one of our statues, and everybody’s statues, not just ours, everybody’s. People fought in the Civil War, Americans against Americans. It was about slavery. We can’t do nothing about that. Black people were selling black people in slavery days. Go to Africa and get the man that started selling the slave. Go to Wilmington. Get the man that started selling slaves. OK? Leave the monuments alone. That’s people’s history. People died for that. Black and white.

It’s me again about the statues. And another thing about these college kids – they should be charged, put in jail or throwed out of college. They’re not supposed to be doing that. That’s not their property. All these college kids protesting, that’s fine. But if you start tearing up property, you should be put in jail. That’s the law. That’s the way I grew up. You made a mistake, you went to jail. Now, let’s get on to something about our Police Department. I appreciate the people that’s been calling in about Elwell Avenue. God help the people over there. They need help.
Continuing. First of all, you people, and when I say you people, I ain’t talking about black people. No, I’m talking about people of this paper. All you conservatives, you liberals, you Christians, you Independents, you Democrats, you all need to get a history lesson going. First of all, the Democrats was one of the racist parties in the country of the US. We got to understand, this country was built on white privilege, white supremacy anyway.

I was just reading the August 10 edition of the Rhino Times and reading John Hammer’s account of recently attending the Guilford County commissioners meeting. And his observation of Skip Alston and Carolyn Coleman’s discussions about not enough minorities and women being given contracts in the County. We have to remember that Skip Alston and Carolyn Coleman only have one objective, and that is to better the special interest groups that support them and that are important to them, which is mostly going to be black businesses. I mean, let’s face it. That’s a fact. Even if they’re not qualified.

Yes, this message is to all the readers of the Rhino Times, and to the editor of this fine paper, John Hammer. Yes, I said it. We have a president who is a racist. Donald J. Trump is a racist. And you all have voted for him. You evangelicals, you white Christians, black Christians, if you voted for Donald Trump, more money would come to your church.

I see where Gov. Cooper wants to take down all the monuments in North Carolina. I’ve got news for you, Mr. Cooper. You may think you own this state. but the people of North Carolina own this state. Some of these left-wing liberals put you in office. The rest of us don’t agree with it. There should be a vote taken by every citizen of North Carolina as to whether these statues are removed or not. Those statues have been standing there for years until all of you progressives declared war on the common moral values and the heritage of this country. Those statues mean something to someone, to the average Southern citizens. Our family members fought and died in those wars. It may not be politically correct, but we don’t need you intervening on behalf and telling us what you’re going to do.

I have always thought that one of the most basic qualifications for a president is that he has read and understands the Constitution of this country. And while he does not necessarily have to be a constitutional scholar, he should at least be able to reasonably discuss and intelligently debate its contents. There have been some past presidents I have been bitterly opposed to, but at least I always had the feeling that they had that basic qualification. Why do I constantly get the opposite impression of Donald Trump? Somehow, I just can’t imagine that man being able to hold his own in a constitutional conversation with even a bright student in a high school civics class. Maybe I’m wrong.
