On Sunday, July 4th, after about a year and four months of a pandemic, High Point is putting on its traditional celebration – a day with music, fireworks and more.

The City of High Point Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its yearly party known as the “Uncle Sam Jam” at Oak Hollow Festival Park on Sunday.

Guilford County is having a fireworks show at Northeast Park the night before, so, if your friends and family love fireworks, you’ll be able to see both displays back to back.

High Point’s  Uncle Sam Jam will feature live, family-friendly music performed by the NC Brass Band starting at 4:45 p.m., That will be followed by the group EnVision at 6:30 p.m.– so expect to hear some great beach music.

There will also be food vendors and children’s activities at the event. The fireworks show over Oak Hollow Lake begins at 9:15 p.m. – which seems a little early given that sunset that night will be at 8:40 p.m.

Gates open at Oak Hollow Festival Park at 1841 Eastchester Drive in High Point at 4:30 p.m. and the cost is $10 per vehicle.

City officials warn that, due to ongoing road construction nearby, the Uncle Sam Jam traffic traveling north can’t make left turns off Eastchester Drive into Festival Park. Only right turns into the park are allowed during the event.

You’ll need to leave Fido at home. Pets are not allowed.  That’s sad in a way but everyone knows how some dogs react to fireworks.

Coolers, chairs and blankets are permitted.

Organizers stress that the Uncle Sam Jam is a “family event.” Alcohol isn’t allowed and people should be prepared for bag and cooler checks at the gate.

Tents, glass containers, fishing equipment, fireworks, grills and drones are also prohibited.

Oak Hollow Lake will close to boats promptly at 7 p.m. on July 4th. Oak Hollow Golf Course will close at 7 p.m. –  and all golfers must be off the course by that time as well.
