Two Guilford County Sheriff’s Office deputies were injured and a suspect was killed Monday night, Oct. 19, after deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the southern part of Guilford County.
According to a news release issued Wednesday, Oct. 21, by Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rogers, deputies responded to a residence at 6874 Kimesville Road in Liberty at about 9:30 p.m.
The incident resulted in injuries to two deputies – both of whom were transported to a local hospital with what the Sheriff’s Office described as non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.
The Sheriff’s Office hasn’t released the names of the deputies or the deceased suspect – nor has it provided details about what led to the shooting.
It also remains unclear whether the deputies suffered gunshot wounds or were injured in some other manner. The Sheriff’s Office didn’t specify who fired the shot that killed the suspect.
According to the release, the families of both deputies and the deceased suspect have been notified.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office. Having the SBI investigate an officer-involved shooting is consistent with standard practice in North Carolina.
The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing and that no additional information will be released at this time.
