On Wednesday, April 8, the Guilford County Sheriff’s office put out notice that it doesn’t want the case of the death of a 16-year-old boy to go cold. The office sent out a press release calling for anyone in the public who has information on the case to come forward.
The Sheriff’s Office previously reported that on October 21, 2024, at about 6 a.m., Guilford County deputies responded to 4925 Harvest Road in McLeansville following a 911 call reporting an “unknown problem, man down.”
Upon arrival on the scene, those deputies discovered 16-year-old David White Jr., who was deceased from several gunshot wounds.
This week, the Sheriff’s Office reminded the public that this remains an active and ongoing homicide investigation, and also that detectives are continuing to look into the matter and are seeking information from the community.
After the shooting, the Sheriff’s Office only identified the victim as a 16-year-old male; however, in February 2026, the Office was no longer saying just “juvenile” or “male victim” – it began circulating his full name and photo in the unsolved-homicide. That appeal suggests that investigators made a deliberate decision at that point that public identification of the deceased might help generate leads.
It’s not clear if any new revelations came from the release of the name but what is clear is that the office is still working on the case and making public appeals in an attempt to generate leads.
Anyone with information related to this investigation is encouraged to contact Detective J.M. Allen at 336-641-2799 or call Guilford County Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.

My heart aches for the family of David White, Jr. I cannot understand why this young man’s name was not released earlier.
The cynical side of me questions the timing of this notice and if the timing is in preparation for the November election.
