The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office is closing out 2025 with a full slate of events, public outreach efforts and one much-anticipated milestone that’s been years in the making.
On Monday, Dec. 8, Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rogers will hold a news conference to discuss the long-awaited transition into the new Sheriff’s Office Administrative Building at 401 W. Sycamore St. in downtown Greensboro.
As Rhino Times readers know very well, the county has been trying for years to get that headquarters open and operational. The project has experienced delay after delay – from construction issues to redesigns to a lengthy period during which county leaders gave little indication of when the doors would actually open.
Now, with staff beginning to move in, the Sheriff’s Office is finally ready to show itself off.
Monday’s news conference will be held at the Otto Zenke Building at 400 W. Washington St. – the same building the Sheriff’s Office has been using for many of its administrative functions while waiting for the new headquarters. After the news conference, members of the media will be allowed to tour the Zenke Building one last time and then see designated public areas of the new headquarters across the street.
The move will eventually consolidate several key administrative functions under one roof – which county officials say will make the office more efficient and more accessible to the public.
A few days later, on Friday, Dec. 12, the Sheriff’s Office will host its annual Celebration of Life ceremony. That event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., honors those lost to traffic-related accidents in 2024. The remembrance includes a tree-lighting ceremony meant to bring families, officers and community members together during what can be a difficult time of year for those who’ve lost loved ones.
The gathering will take place in the parking lot of the new headquarters at 401 West Sycamore Street.
The Sheriff’s Office is also conducting its annual holiday toy drive.
The “Fill the Bus” initiative is now underway and will continue through Monday, Dec. 15. A bus parked outside the Otto Zenke Building at 400 W. Washington St. is serving as the drop-off point for new, unwrapped toys.
Donations can be brought by on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
