The Guilford County Sheriff’s Department has made an arrest in an arson case the department has been investigating for over a month. On Thursday, April 6, Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rogers announced the arrest for an arson event that took place on Friday, February 24 of this year.

On that day, Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to 5341 Hicone Road in McLeansville. In conjunction with the Guilford County Fire Marshal’s Office, the detectives investigated the cause of a house fire.

On Thursday, March 30, the detectives felt they had enough evidence to arrest Arthur Sylvester Chapman, who they charged with First Degree Arson.

A jail magistrate issued a $25,000 secured bond and Chapman was remanded to the Guilford County Detention Center.

Even though a suspect has been apprehended in this case, a statement from the Sheriff’s Department released on Thursday, April 6, requested that members of the public with any information provide it to the department. Anyone with relevant information is instructed to call Detective D. Duncan at 336-641-5968 or call Guilford County Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.

All calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential. No names are used and no calls are taped or traced.

In the April 6 statement announcing the arson arrest, Rogers said that he would like to thank the Fire Marshal’s Office for its assistance.
