Guilford County is looking for volunteers willing to spend a couple of hours picking up litter at one of the county’s nature preserves as part of National CleanUp Day.
Guilford County Planning and Development and Guilford County Parks and Recreation will hold a cleanup at Benbow Nature Preserve, 2279 Britton St. in Greensboro, on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 9 to 11 a.m.
Volunteers will help remove litter from throughout the preserve and will also have a chance to learn more about the effect litter has on local waterways.
Benbow Nature Preserve includes walking trails, picnic areas and an urban orchard planted with native fruit and nut trees that are available for community use.
The preserve is open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset.
Volunteers for the Sept. 19 cleanup must be at least 18 years old.
The county recommends that participants wear waterproof boots or other closed-toe shoes, long pants and a hat. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring work gloves and a reusable water bottle.
Community service hours will be available upon request, and the county says volunteers will also have an opportunity to receive prizes for participating.

Why would the county ask citizens to subject themselves to a former bio-hazard location? Will the county cover medical costs when it is discover years down the road that this “volunteer” work has not been totally rectified to from hazardous waste? If you volunteer and are requested to sign a form by the county, use caution!
Biggest question-is the city of Greensboro involved? If not, why not?
