Are you thinking about taking one of the many jobs that will be offered at the Toyota battery manufacturing plant right outside of Guilford County and want to find out what it will be like to work there?
Well, you’ll get a chance to do just that.
GuilfordWorks – the City of Greensboro’s office that’s devoted to workforce development in the city and the surrounding area – is hosting an event later this week meant to hook up workers with a giant regional battery manufacturing plant and offer them some experience as to what it would be like to work for the highly successful car company.
The city and the car maker want potential workers to attend the “Toyota Day of Work Event,” which will include “assessment readiness training” and let prospective employees learn about the hiring process, participate in a few hands-on training activities and talk directly with those involved in the hiring and training process.
GuilfordWorks is holding the Day of Work training event from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, at NCWorks Career Center in Greensboro at 2301 W. Meadowview Road.
Toyota and city representatives stated that the event will help prospective employees learn about the hiring process by speaking directly with those involved in hiring and training for the project officially known as “Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina.”
Those who participate will also get some hands-on training meant to familiarize them with the anticipated day-to-day work activities.
Toyota recommends that all attendees register online before the event.
Greensboro, High Point, Guilford County and the surrounding areas have had so much success recruiting new business that, behind the scenes, some area leaders are worried that the region may be the dog that caught the car and not have enough people to handle all the work.
One person who’s not worried about that is Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan. She told the Rhino Times recently that these major companies don’t go into an area unless they feel extremely confident the workforce is there to support them.
“These are multi-million and multi-billion-dollar companies and they research that carefully before they choose a location,” the mayor said.
The city and the county have been ramping up those workforce efforts a great deal lately.
There’s also an ongoing effort to create a skilled workforce to support the new aviation megasite at Piedmont Triad International Airport. In addition to many other local efforts, Guilford Technical Community College is in the process of establishing a new and very expensive campus that will train aviation workers.

A statement from the popular car maker reads, “Toyota Manufacturing is looking to develop new innovative solutions to support the future of mobility and values being a member of a local and global community. We offer an inclusive team environment that values ‘respect for people’ and we are a company with a rich history and an exciting future to pursue your professional dreams. Along with great pay, amazing benefits, and a stable work environment – Toyota Manufacturing has it all.”
Skip should be able to fill these jobs. DEI opens all kind of doors.
It does. Great idea! Good for you JV. Proud of your support for DEI.
I cannot speak for Toyota, but I am a current Team Member, and can tell you from first-hand experience that this is a wonderful place to work. If you possess a strong work ethic, positive attitude, a desire to succeed, and a passion for people; look no further. There’s no limit to the opportunities that await you here! If in doubt, check it out for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
“.. sounds like a great opportunity, looking forward to being a part, and making a difference.
GuilfordWorks? A City of Greensboro office? Mandate Mayor with employment analysis?
What about the businesses actually in Greensboro and Guilford county? Throwing more tax dollars and programs to help large non American firms that are not even in Greensboro shows who controls the public purse strings…..your Mandate Mayor and her cabal of sycophants care little about those that don’t have a large bankroll for them. I’m sure every business actually in Guilford county would like help finding qualified staff but Mandate Mayor wants some more press and photo ops with any regional potential donors.
I can’t seem to get a job over there and I been trying so has a few of my friends we can’t keep waiting for Toyota and can’t turn or back on the employers who sustain us presently
Registration on-line for this event has been closed since last week.
With the exception of one normal person, Shane, the comment section has the usual list of sad sacks who couldn’t fight their way out of a wet paper sack much less apply, interview, and land a career with a premiere company like Toyota.
MWBE can provide the proper work force.
Please stop using the MWBE program as a straw man. It’s not going anywhere and continuing to whine about makes you all sound like weak, soft, lost men crying about being replaced by black people. It’s gross.
And is the City of Greensboro going to extend public transportation to the Toyota plant, and the other companies at the megasite, so that people can get to these jobs?
