Everyone knows that, with the low unemployment rate these days, it’s hard to find good help – and local governments in Guilford County are no exception.

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, the City of High Point put out the word that it’s got quite a few vacancies to fill and it needs to fill them fast.

To meet that goal, the City of High Point Public Services Department is holding a hiring event on Thursday, Jan. 18.

The job fair will run  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the High Point Public Library at 901 N. Main St. in High Point.

Some of the positions seeking people to fill them are as follows: motor equipment operators, sanitation equipment operators, and water/sewer technicians.

According to the job fair announcement, the county’s second largest city needs workers very soon, and, therefore, qualified applicants may well receive a next-day offer.

There’s no registration required for the event.

High Point has a lot of company when it comes to needing good help.  Just to take two area examples, Guilford County government has been trying hard to fill a long list of vacancies for well over a year and Piedmont Triad International Airport, which also has been carrying a long list of vacancies, held a job fair in late 2023.

The City of High Point, like a lot of area local governments, is offering quite a few perks for its employees-to-be. Those include 401K matching, training, career development programs, and advancement opportunities.

Also, the open positions allow for “work-life balance,” flexible 4/10 work schedules, telehealth options, medical flex spending, health savings accounts and 12 paid holidays – in addition to vacation and sick leave.

Many benefits apply to both full-time and part-time positions,
