Just before 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, a 911 caller reported the body of an apparently unconscious person on the Big Loop Trail at Bur-Mil Park.

Guilford County EMS, Greensboro Fire and Greensboro Police responded to the scene to aid the man who was later reported to be deceased.  Law enforcement is investigating the incident but has not released much information at this point.

County officials have also been closed lipped.  One county official said that laws pertaining to medical privacy prevented him from giving out any additional information.

According to a brief statement put out by the county Tuesday afternoon, the rescue team located the man at the park, which is at 5834 Bur-Mil Club Road in northwest Greensboro, and took him to a local hospital after he was found to have “life-threatening injuries.”

The press release from the county added, “No additional information is available at this time as an investigation into this incident continues.”

The release added that the trail was being closed to the public “due to the seriousness of the incident.”

According to Guilford County officials, new information will be released as it becomes available.

The tragedy comes at a time when county parks officials are very excited about a lot of summer events following a year-plus of COVID-19.  County parks crews have done a lot of work enhancing trails and upgrading the parks during the pandemic and they recently announced that the parks’ pools would be open this summer and that fireworks would return to Northeast Park on July 3.

Today’s death hasn’t affected events or trail access at other county parks.
