It’s the nature of law enforcement work that officers never quite know what to expect when they go out on a call. That was certainly the case over the weekend when Guilford County sheriff’s deputies got a call and drove out to quiet a loud party disturbing the peace in the middle of the night.

They received a very serious update while on the way: Someone reported that there had been a shooting at the party.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office stated that, on Saturday, September 7, at about 2:30 a.m., deputies who were responding to a call about a boisterous party at 3205 Spring Mill Road in Greensboro learned, while on the way, that the shooting had taken place.

When they arrived, the deputies found the victim and identified him as 26-year-old Diondre Overton. Despite giving immediate medical aid, Overton was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the investigation suggests that this incident is isolated.

Currently, the case is an active and ongoing homicide investigation, and deputies want to speak with anyone who was at the party or who knows anything about the death of Overton.

Anyone with information or who went to the party is being encouraged to contact Guilford County Sheriff’s Office Detective J. Robertson at 336-641-5969.

If you want to remain anonymous, you can contact Guilford County Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
