The City of High Point and Keep High Point Beautiful are once again coming together to put on the annual, citywide effort to get the city looking sharp and litter free.
The 2021 “Big Sweep” cleanup event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 2 and run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
As one can likely deduce from the name, the Big Sweep is a large citywide effort – though it’s really more about picking up trash than sweeping it. Each year, the event targets streams, lakes, waterways, parks, High Point’s Greenway – and some streets that have a tendency to accumulate litter.
One reason for the trash removal is to keep it from being washed into waterways and other bodies of water in and around the city.
This year, the Big Sweep is being sponsored by Blue Ridge Companies, the City of High Point Parks and Recreation Department, Leggett & Platt Inc., Pinnacle Financial Partners and Vomela Motor Sports Design.
If you have a desire to help keep High Point and its waterways clean, you can register at www.highpointnc.gov/bigsweep. Preregistration is requested.
You will also be given some of the tools you’ll need: Supplies will be provided to cleanup volunteers at Pinnacle Financial at 1300 E. Hartley Dr. in High Point.
In addition, you’ll get a chance to win a little money for your good deed. Every volunteer is entered to win one of five $100 Visa gift cards – or one of four $50 restaurant gift cards.
Participants are also being encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to area food banks. Those who do will receive an additional entry into the gift card drawing for each food item they donate.
Sweep the jails, and put’em to work.
