The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office has charged a High Point man with second- degree murder in connection with the July 2 shooting death of a juvenile in McLeansville.
Sheriff Danny Rogers announced that 21-year-old Karell Tyshawn Harrington was arrested on Monday, July 21, at just after 10 a.m. He’s currently being held without bond in the Guilford County jail in downtown Greensboro.
Arrest records state that Harrington “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously did shoot” the victim on July 2. Family members of the 15-year-old girl who was shot and killed told WFMY News 2 that she was dog sitting at the residence when the shooting occurred.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies first responded to the scene at 5014 Hooper Road in McLeansville at about 4:30 a.m. on July 2, after getting a report of a firearm discharge.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a young victim who had died from a gunshot wound. Authorities haven’t released the victim’s name but have confirmed that the victim was a juvenile and that the next of kin had been notified.
Detectives classified the incident as a homicide early on and spent nearly three weeks investigating before identifying Harrington (pictured above) as the suspect and obtaining a warrant for his arrest.
The Sheriff’s Office described the case as an “isolated incident” and said there’s no ongoing threat to the public related to the shooting.
In a statement, the department offered condolences to the victim’s family, calling it “a tragedy no family should ever have to endure.”
“Our detectives have worked tirelessly to seek justice on her behalf,” the statement read.
The investigation remains active, and if you have any information regarding it, you are being asked to contact Detective T. English at 336-641-2570 or to submit a tip anonymously through Guilford County Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
