On Thursday, June 29, The High Point Public Library announced its 2023 Summer Program schedule for the month of July and there’s plenty the choose from. The theme this year is “All Together Now,” and the focus is on “promoting kindness, friendship and unity.”

In July, the following events will be offered for children 12 years of age and under…

  • Tie-Dye, Wednesday, July 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Arts & Education Plaza.
  • Alina Celeste Bilingual Story Time. Thursday, July 6, at 11 a.m. in the Library’s Story Room.
  • Culinary Kids Cooking Classes. Wednesday, July 12, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Wednesdays during July only; registration required).
  • Down to Earth Aerial Acrobatics. Thursday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at Oakview Recreation Center.
  • Origami Story Time with Yasu Ishida. Friday, July 14, at 11 a.m. in the Library’s Story Room.
  • Mulan Movie and Character Visit. Saturday, July 15, at 11 a.m. in the Library’s Story Room.
  • NC Museum of Natural Sciences presents “Animal Tracks.” Saturday, July 15, at 2 p.m. in the Library’s Story Room.
  • Breakout Program. Monday, July 17, at 4:30 p.m. in the Library’s Morgan Community Room.
  • Big Bang Boom! Thursday, July 20, at 11 a.m. in the Library’s Story Room.
  • EcoExplore Entomology program. Saturday, July 22, at 11 a.m. in the Library’s Story Room.
  • Pint-size Polka’s Music and Magic Friendzy program. Monday, July 31, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Library’s Story Room.

All summer performances are free to the public – and no registration is required (except for Culinary Kids). While visiting the library, children are encouraged to pick up a backpack, reading log and stickers to earn weekly prizes for reading books.  They’re also encouraged to enter the raffle for several grand prizes.

In July, the following activities will be offered for teens ages 13 to18:

  • Collaborative Group Puzzle. Regular library hours during July.
  • Book Bracket Tournament. Vote for winners every other week during July.
  • Crafty Teens: DIY Neon Signs. Week of July 11 in the Teen Garage, while supplies last.
  • Trivia Featuring Famous Friends. Thursday, July 13, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Teen Garage.
  • Spread a Little Kindness Activity. Starting Tuesday, July 18, during regular library hours in the Teen Garage.
  • Meet Author Libby McNamee. Wednesday, July 19, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the High Point Museum. This event is co-sponsored by the High Point Historical Society. Open to all ages.
  • Crafty Teens: Kindness Cards for Seniors. Tuesday, July 25, in the Teen Garage during regular library hours, while supplies last (cards will be delivered to a local retirement community the week of July 31).

Sign-ups for the teen and adult Summer Reading Book Clubs will begin June 12 and close August 12 for teens and August 18 for adults. Participants can earn prizes for reading books over the summer. Register online at: https://www.highpointnc.gov/1765/Summer-Reading-Programs.
