The High Point Public Library has been highly active in recent weeks and, on Thursday March 9, library officials announced two things that area residents might find enjoyable – a chance at a golden ticket and an opportunity for everyone to learn about quilts and quilting.

The Friends of the High Point Public Library are offering St. Patrick’s Day-themed gift baskets for sale to the public this month – with an additional incentive for people who purchase one before March 17.

A Golden ticket – though it might not get you as much as you think.

Here’s what you can win:  “Included in one of the gift baskets is a golden ticket entitling the purchaser to claim the special St. Patrick’s Day-themed basket, which includes a gift certificate to The Claddagh Restaurant and Pub.”

The purchaser who receives the golden ticket has to come to the lending desk on the first floor of the library on Friday, March 17 to claim the prize.

These gift baskets are one of many ways that the Friends of the Library organization encourages people to support the library.  For more information about the special St. Patrick’s Day basket and all of the Friends of the Library-themed gift baskets, you can call Library Lending Manager Shelly Witcher at 336-883-3651.

In another effort to get people through the doors, on Tuesday, March 14, the library will host “Quilts of Art on Display,” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first floor in the Morgan Community Room.

Holly Davis will showcase quits and a variety of quilted wall hangers created by her mother, Doris Rickles, who passed away two years ago.  Rickles served as a teacher in the New Jersey public school system for over two decades and she “created a legacy of making quilts such as her leaf quilts and her quilt with musicians on it because of her husband’s interest in jazz.”

The quilt event is free and open to the public. For more information, you can contact Maxine Days atmaxine.days@highpointnc.gov.

There’s another reason to make it down to the library that always seems to have a lot going on: The Friends of the Library also sponsor a continuous used book sale, as well as larger quarterly used book sales that cover the library’s first-floor lobby. The next quarterly used book sale will be Saturday, June 24, at 9 a.m..
