In Northeast Guilford County, there will be a big fireworks show and holiday celebration on Wednesday, July 3 at Northeast Park; however, those who live in the southwest corner of the county also have a great option that’s closer by and on the July 4th holiday itself. The City of High Point Parks & Recreation Department is hosting its annual Fourth of July celebration with the very cool name –The Uncle Sam Jam.
That community party has been a local tradition since 1973, when one of the top-selling books was The Princess Bride.
At this event, the gates at Oak Hollow Festival Park, which can be found at 1841 Eastchester Drive in High Point, will open at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.
The cost is $10 per vehicle, cash only.
Note that, since the county’s Northeast Park event is a day before July 4, people and families who truly want to party this week can attend both celebrations back-to-back.
High Point event promoters warn that the fireworks show will not be visible from Oak Hollow Marina or Sailboat Point this year. Parking fees won’t be charged at these locations.
The Uncle Sam Jam will feature live, family-friendly music by The Nonprofits at 5 p.m., followed by a performance of the Throwback Collaboration Band at 6:30 p.m. The fireworks show over Oak Hollow Lake is scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m.
The Uncle Sam Jam’s Family Fun Zone will offer some free activities for kids.
A $20 all-inclusive wristband includes additional access to the inflatables, jousting area and activities like inflatable ax throwing.
A variety of food vendors will be selling tasty, if not exactly healthy, treats such as pizza, wings, burgers, hot dogs, ice cream and shaved ice, popcorn, funnel cakes and lemonade.
Pets aren’t allowed at the Uncle Sam Jam, but coolers, chairs and blankets are.
Alcohol isn’t allowed, and those entering should be prepared for bags and coolers to be checked at the gate. Tents, glass containers, fishing equipment, personal fireworks, grills and drones are also prohibited.
Oak Hollow Lake will close to boats promptly at 7 p.m. on July 4. There will be no night fishing on Thursday, July 4 due to this event. Oak Hollow Golf Course will close at 5 p.m.– and all golfers must be off the course by that time as well.
