On Monday night, June 10, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office reported that, at 1:23 a.m. that morning, Guilford County sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call from 54-year-old Andrew Ryan Caetto at 7504 Skippers Trace in Oak Ridge.
When the deputies arrived, they had an encounter with Caetto during which 29-year-old Guilford County Sheriff’s Office Master Corporal Dakota Brim was shot.
Brim was taken to an area hospital and, very fortunately, Brim has since been released.
Caetto has been arrested.
He was also transported to a hospital after being treated for what were described as “non-life-threatening injuries.”
Caetto has been charged with multiple crimes following the shooting for which few details are currently available.
Those charges include:
- Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury (under N.C. General Statute 14-32a)
- Misdemeanor Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer (under N.C. General Statute 14-33c4)
- Felony Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm) under N.C. General Statute 14-34.5a)
Caetto is currently being held at the Guilford County jail in downtown Greensboro with no bond and he has a first appearance hearing scheduled for Tuesday, June 11.
According to the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, there’s currently no threat to the community related to the incident.
As usual, in these types of cases, the Sheriff’s Office notes that it is an ongoing investigation and therefore no further details will be released at this time.
Anyone who has information related to this incident or knows something that could be helpful to the investigation is encouraged to contact Detective Simone Shanks at 336-641-5966.
Alternatively, those with knowledge of the events can call Guilford County Crimestoppers at 336-373-1000, where their calls will be anonymous.
Scott desperately needs a proof reader.
I believe that June 10 was MONDAY.
Master Corporal Dakota Brim, God speed your recovery.
Thank goodness we’re living in a State and County that still believes in justice. This criminal deserves no bail and a minimum sentence of 25 years incarceration.
He was transported to a hospital after being treated for what were described as “non-life-threatening injuries.” WXII showed his picture on the Tuesday 12:00 news, preceded with a warning that the image was disturbing. Someone, or many, beat the crap out of this guy.
Unless egregious, I try to ignore however I often send private messages when able. I do suggest using a free app like SpellCheck, which annoys me constantly because it doesn’t recognize informal language.
Lock Caetto up and throw away the key.
Not sure why he should be. Why was it necessary to have the assault rifle out. Mr Caetto wasn’t armed. The officers may need more training on how to properly handle firearms. The safety should been on and you don’t have your finger on the trigger until you’re ready to pull it. Had that protocol been followed the second officer would not have gotten shot.
