The Guilford County Sheriff’s Department is going to discover whether or not the officers in the department have game when they put down their guns this weekend and pickup basketballs to do battle against a local barber shop – all in the name of a good cause.

The department is taking on Heads Up Barber and Beauty in the “8th Annual Back-to-School Rally” basketball game, which will – in addition to determining a bragging rights winner for the coming year – provide a way to get school supplies into the hands of kids ready to hit the classroom again by giving out backpacks full of supplies.

Event organizers note that supplies are limited, so those anxious to get some should arrive to the event early.

The game is a part of the “Back to School Rally,”  hosted by Heads Up For Our Youth. At the event, school supplies will be available for pick up and new donations will also be accepted.

The game which is free to attend will take place on Sunday, Aug. 20 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Novant Health Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum at 1921 West Gate City Blvd. in Greensboro

While the event is free, attendee registration is required. Registration can be completed at https://headsupforouryouth.com .

There will be other entertainment as well – such as a 3-point shoot-out, a dance contest and a good old fashion game of tug-of-war.

Heads Up is a 501c3 non-profit organization,

Last year, the barbers won, but this year the Sheriff’s Department hopes to get its revenge.

Since this is an indoor event, it will be held rain or shine unless an extreme weather advisory has been issued.
