The Guilford County Parks Department only became a stand-alone department last year and it’s been adding services and making improvements to the county’s parks system for a while.

Now, with warm weather just around the corner, the county’s parks need more staff – so the department is holding two virtual hiring fairs later this month.

The county is hiring hourly summer staff for Bur-Mil Park, Gibson Park, Hagan-Stone Park, Northeast Park, Southwest Park and for the department’s “Passive Parks and Trails” team.

The starting pay is $15 an hour for the positions that include park attendants, park cashiers and park event hosts. Virtual interviews will take place Wednesday, March 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m., and on Saturday, March 26 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Applicants are to apply at http://agency.governmentjobs.com/guilfordnc/default.cfm to attend the hiring event.

“These are great opportunities for teens, college students, teachers and other professionals seeking part-time summer employment, retirees, and everyone who wants to make a positive contribution to the parks,” the county’s call for parks workers states. “Working with the parks is perfect for those who love the outdoors and are interested in pursuing a career in outdoor recreation.”

Here are the job descriptions:

  • Park attendants – AKA park ground tech assistants – work to maintain the grounds for the parks as well as for other public areas run by the county.
  • Park cashiers use cash registers and process credit and debit card transactions. The work also can include greeting park guests and being able to answer some questions about the park.
  • Park events hosts, who will work at Northeast Park or Bur-Mil Park, will assist customers renting facilities and do things like add tables and chairs when needed, communicate the rules and regulations and provide answers to questions about the facility.
