Greensboro residents interested in helping shape city policies affecting the LGBTQ+ community have an opportunity to apply for one of five openings on the city’s LGBTQ+ Task Force.
The City of Greensboro announced on Monday, June 1 that applications are being accepted through Tuesday, June 30, for positions on the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer+ (LGBTQ+) Task Force, an advisory group that works with the city’s Human Rights Department on issues affecting LGBTQ+ residents.
The task force is one of several advisory groups overseen by Greensboro’s Human Rights Department that are focused on specific communities and issues.
According to the city, the LGBTQ+ Task Force was established to identify and address barriers facing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer residents in Greensboro. This group examines city rules, policies and procedures that may create discriminatory obstacles and provides recommendations aimed at improving the quality of life for LGBTQ+ residents.
The city’s website states that the task force focuses on four primary areas: health and community wellness, legal process and policy change, housing discrimination, and youth involvement and education.
Members of the task force work to identify challenges affecting LGBTQ+ residents, provide resources related to legal and policy issues, examine housing concerns and promote youth outreach and education efforts.
The group also seeks ways to improve health and wellness within Greensboro’s LGBTQ+ community.
The task force is one of five committees, commissions and task forces administered by the Human Rights Department. Greensboro has for years relied on such advisory groups to provide input from specific communities and populations. City officials say that those groups help identify concerns, recommend policy changes and provide feedback to local government leaders and policymakers.
Residents interested in learning more about the LGBTQ+ Task Force can attend one of two recruiting fairs being held on Wednesday, June 3.
The first recruiting fair will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the Yvonne Johnson Event Center at 1502 Barber Park Drive. A second recruiting fair is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Griffin Community Recreation Center at 5301 Hilltop Road.
City staff will be available at both events to answer questions about the task force and to assist residents with the application process.
According to the Human Rights Department, the city’s broader mission is to promote mutual understanding, respect and fair treatment for all Greensboro residents regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability or familial status.
Residents may apply online through the city’s website or obtain additional information by contacting Human Rights Deputy Director Maria Hicks-Few at 336-373-2038.

OMG!!!!!
ANOTHER reason
OMG!!!!!!
Yet ANOTHER reason why I’m glad I’m no longer paying GSO city taxes.
However I’m sure the Omnipotent One and his flunkies on the Board of Commissars are somehow tied into this.
Five more votes for the faithful. And so it goes…
I am lucky to out of the County since last year. A bit inconvenient for shopping and visiting, but not that much. We have acreage and a big porch. Life is beautiful.
So now we add another task. First they’ll sue for reparations and then we’ll let the Cities insurance pay for it and we’ll be told what bad people men and women are.
You just can’t make this stuff up.
The task force is not new; it has been around but is seeking new applicants.
Feel like these are just nice cushy nepotism jobs for the people in local government. Can’t believe we’re throwing tax money for these positions that HR and other departments should be doing to begin with.
Logic has no reason here.
As long as the city has bigoted people that refer to the LGBTQ community as deviants and falsely pretend that that isn’t an insult, it is good to have groups such as this to assist with working to bring down similar barriers. It’s bad enough that so many face that type of negative abuse from family who pretend that ‘hating the sin but not the sinner’ isn’t a personal attack on the individual’s core character. It is good the city works to keep that kind of discrimination out of governmental policy and procedures.
Hopefully one day, these types of committees won’t be needed.
They’re not needed now, except to pad the budgets and rape the taxpayers.
Na, as long as have the bigotry as expressed even just here in the Rhino Times comment section, groups like these will be needed for some time to come…..but to be fair, this group is volunteers coordinated by staff that have broader jobs than just the task force.
Cheers.

I’ve gradually started to wonder if Scott’s gay. Nothing wrong with that, if it’s your cup of tea.
I am not gay, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
—————
Exactly.
Chacun a son gout.
[ “Professor” Chris says that I hate gay people. I do not at all, but the Left’s M.O. is to engage in character assassination of people who oppose them. Or actual assassination, come to think of it. How many times have they tried to murder the President? They are generally odious people who are drawn to the political Left as it instantly bestows saintliness on them. “Democrats – Neighbors who Care” – remember that yard sign? That’s their whole schtick. It’s a Get Out of Jail Free Card for the most despicable, spiteful and unpleasant people. ]
Austin, It is very difficult to argue with someone who speaks so grandiloquently like “Professor Chris”.
————–
I apoligise Mr. O.
I mean my comments to be as readily understood as possible, but sometimes le mot juste* is an obscure or foreign phrase. And I refuse to dumb down my English in order to cater to the lowest common denominator.
Other people’s ignorance and lack of education is not my problem.
—————
* Oh dear, I think I did it again. Sorry ! I’m the beneficiary ( victim? ) of an excellent education.
Cheers!
Of course I was being sarcastic with my remark Austin. You do very well with your comments with which I certainly like and agree.
————-
Oh, I see! Thanks Mister O.
Do you know, most of what I write here comes out as a torrent of “stream of consciousness”.
I just suddenly become moved to say something, and out it comes. It’s as if I’m not really involved, as if I’m channeling something, because it just pours forth so readily and profusely.
I generally cast a brief eye over my comments after they’ve come out, to check for typos, but otherwise it’s a case of a subconscious outpouring.
So I feel a bit ashamed – and a bit of a fraud – when kind people like you compliment me. It’s almost as if I’m not involved, myself.
I have a great analogy for this, if you’re interested. But it might be for another day.
Thanks again.
You refer to LGBTQ people as deviants as if that isn’t an insult. If you retract that statement, I would be happy to drop the accusation of your bigotry to the LGBTQ community. Until then, if the shoe fits.
Chris I agree with Austin there is something wrong with the lgbtq people and their lifestyle. I personally think that they are mentally unstable. But heh I’ll just be me.
—————-
Their sexuality deviates from the norm, therefore they are deviants. This is simply a matter of correct English.
I shall continue to refer to people with sexually deviant predilections as sexual deviants because that is what they are.
You, “Professor” are seeing bigotry where none exists. But then, your M.O is to demonize, smear, and stigmatize conservatives, regardless of truth.
So you carry on with your lies, and I’ll carry on with my truths.
————-
PS
Even if it is an insult, you insult me – and other conservatives – all the time.
Does that mean that you are a bigot?
Your argument is absurd. You just want to hate on conservatives.
There are far more polite ways to reference minority groups. Do you refer to redheads as deviants as they are a smaller percentage of the population than LGBTQ people? Nope. You use thst word for no other purpose than to insult.
Will, they are just different than you in terms of sexual attraction. Why do you concern yourself with who someone loves? They are as God made them.
————
I do NOT concern myself with the love lives of other people. I am a libertarian conservative, which means that I believe the state has no business involving itself in the sex life of its citizens.
This is a free country, after all.
Yet you smear LGBTQ people every chance you get here in the Rhino Times comment section? You continue to pretend that calling a group of people deviants isn’t an insult.
But you be you
————
You just go around and around in circles, without letting logic or reason get a look in.
So just keep on repeating yourself buddy – over and over again.
You’re a tiresome, predictable, pedestrian bore.
——–
Chrissy, the only person here who’s hell bent on smearing other people is you.
Christian,
So what I hear you saying is you wish to become the High Censor for the Rhino Times.
Austin I’m really beginning to wonder if Chris the professor might be “a little light in the loafers”. Not saying just wondering b
———
Hey Rebel! Hope you’re well.
I don’t think “Professor Chris” is a poofter, but it is possible. I really don’t care, and it doesn’t affect our debates, so I couldn’t care less what he does with his private parts.
Hey Reb, I’m going to be a US Citizen! My Naturalization ceremony is in Charlotte at the end of the month.
And it only took me four decades…. Okay, so I’m very good at procrastination!
God Bless America.
And Dixie.
Austin,
Congratulations and welcome to herd.
Are you going to have dual citizenship or are you renouncing?
Just curious.
Again in the words of Victor Laszlo from Casablanca: “Welcome back to the fight.”
————-
Thanks Patrick!
The US and UK permit Dual Citizenship reciprocally, so I’ll be both a US and British Citizen.
Best of both Worlds!
Cheers!
i’m glad . . . which could b misconstrued
Sorry I’m slow to get back to you Austin. Congratulations!!!!! May all your troubles be small and all of your dreams come true. The South has a new brother. When we ever meet, your beers are on me.
I always wondered if Austin is one of the people that Freud would suggest has a classic ‘reaction formation’ issue.
Professor why do you concern yourself with my opinions about other people.
What a waste of money. No wonder our taxes keep going up.
I think these are unpaid.
Great to hear from you John. How are you and the Muse enjoying retirement
That was a mistake, I made the comment but John’s name was inadvertent. Scott
I’m pretty sure these are volunteer positions. No pay.
stop pretending the alphabet soup is one community
lesbians are as harassed within as without
Most people care less how you run your life. People who are different keep things from looking the same everywhere.
they don’t have a ‘without’ – i’m confused.
Members of the task force work to identify challenges affecting LGBTQ+ residents.
Ummm, the only challenge affecting them is not getting enough mental help!! These people are delusional. They get every single thing handed to them because they’re deemed special. I am so sick of this mess. They get out here and they push their twisted freak ideology onto our children an absolutely nothing is done about it.
Now they want to add a P to the end of the rainbow brigade letters!! They want to include pedophiles now. This is actually up for debate in a lot of states. This blows my freaking mind. They say that pedophiles can’t help who they want to have sex with. That age should have nothing to do with it. That a pedophile has rights. That they should be supported and given benefits and have accessibility to special rights because they can’t control who they love. That they should not be locked up and punished for that.
Are you freaking kidding me! The only support a pedophile should have is a good strong tree that’s holding the noose!! Raping a freaking child is not normal! And age has everything to do with it!
These twisted and mentally ill people need to stop. They need to back the heck up and just go live their lives in private on a private island somewhere away from everyone else. I heard there’s a special Private Island going to be up for auction soon. They all need to chip in and buy it and get the hell out of our country. And they should feel right at home on that island of all places!
It is truly heartbreaking to see what this country has turned into. This is what happens when you turn your back on God.
i am straight – where’s my task force ? because of falling birth rates caused by they/them, the guvmnt should be encouraging($) me to reproduce to maintain our soldier/ et al supply
The claim that a ‘P’ is being added to include pedophiles is a completely false internet hoax. It has been thoroughly debunked by independent fact-checkers like Reuters and USA Today. Every major LGBTQ+ advocacy organization explicitly rejects child abuse and non-consensual behavior. Connecting a municipal human rights advisory committee to child abuse is not only factually wrong, but it also weaponizes a serious crime to shut down normal local government participation
Oh….okay. I thought the “p” was for professors.
LOL Mr. Peter !
a wise man removed my post thnx
what did you say to get your post removed? seeing some of your other posts, it must have been very ……. creative shall i say…
my deleted post might ‘incite to riot’ so i shouldn’t have posted it. to deliberately ‘enrage’ is best left to ‘drill instructors’ in ‘boot camps’ ?
i could have been ass ass inated !
Why does government, any government, think all groups, big and small, need to have special attention given to them paid for by taxpayers? I understand this alphabet tax force is volunteer, but the operational execution behind it is government workers paid for by taxes. Then there are the ad hoc (as needed) Committee on African American Disparity and the Commission on the Status of Women, which focus on interpreting and applying laws affecting women. Since when did government start to become the insulator against society of certain groups?
If groups need/want to form a mutual aid assemblage, great idea. But there are hundreds and hundreds of groups and subgroups in Greensboro and Guilford County, government should not be picking and choosing who gets government attention through orchestrating task forces, ongoing or ad hoc. Otherwise, there could be a task force for Black women who need help with finding daycare, a task force for motorcycle riders who need safety measures against SUV drivers, or a task force for waitresses who need more tip money. You get the point. Stop coddling certain groups because government is not for coddling any person or group.
Termlimits, your argument overlooks an important purpose of the government. The role of government is not merely to treat everyone identically on paper’ it is also to ensure that laws are applied fairly in practice and to identify barriers that prevent some citizens from enjoying the same opportunities and protections as others.
The LGBTQ community has historically faced discrimination in employment, housing, healthcare, education and public accommodations. Task forces and commission are not created because these groups are ‘special’ but because evidence shows they have encountered challenges that may require attention from policymakers.
The examples you give such as motorcycle riders, waitresses, or people seeking daycare, primarily involve occupational or individual concerns. LGBTQ people by contrast have been the targets of widespread discrimination.
Lastly, listening to a community is not the same as coddling it as you claim. A task force typically studies issues, gathers data, hears from affected people, and makes recommendations. Whether those recommendations are adopted is a separate question. But understanding the experiences of citizens who have face prejudices is a legitimate function of government.
Are you upset about the other article here in the Rhino Times “DSS Resource Fair Aims To Raise Awareness Of Elder Abuse In Guilford County”? Are they being coddled inappropriately? or are they addressing a very real issues affecting the community?
It is estimated there are around 5% of alphabets in NC. It is a big group since it includes gays, lesbians, bisexual, trans and others whose names defy imagination. Other than perhaps trans, how can someone who is not a member of this group know with 100% accuracy who is an alphabet member? How would anyone know if a bisexual person is an alphabet person unless the information is shared? And why would a bisexual announce their bisexuality? The government is at fault for all these type groups balkanizing themselves because politicians pander for votes and the alphabets want recognition and government money.
I have never understood how gays and lesbians allowed themselves to be dragged under the alphabet tent. They were doing quite well up until the alphabet union. Now, even Pride is wanning, and I believe it is the direct result of the alphabet union. Bad decision.
professor, there is not one group, not one individual in or out of a group that has not endured barriers of some sort. Blacks are quick to scream racism when they do not receive the job they wanted or recognition they believed they deserved. That is the default position for Blacks. In fact, it is a losing proposition for Whites to deal with Blacks. There could be a turn of phrase that results in being called a racist. There is so much turmoil in the world today, that the best way to deal with it is avoidance. I recommend it.
There are ways to deal with elder abuse without forming a committee at taxpayer expense. There could be a dedicated phone number for the elderly to call, and there are always the police and their social workers. A committee will not stop elder abuse, but a special phone number would give the abused person an opportunity to call and talk to someone anonymously.
The examples I gave were to show that everyone has a grievance, has a need, and that government is not the answer. I understand why Blacks like governments far better than any others and look to the government as their savior. When the War Between the States ended, Blacks flocked into Washington DC and Blacks have since then looked to government to coddle, protect, and provide for them.
Whites, as a group, have understood that no government is going to save them. Unfortunately, currently with handouts from the government, that independent fire is not burning as bright. Sad.
A few things here deserve clarification.
First, LGBTQ people aren’t some tiny special-interest group seeking recognition for the sake of attention. Many LGBTQ people advocate for representation and protections because they have historically faced discrimination in employment, housing, healthcare, education, and public life. The fact that someone’s sexual orientation isn’t always visible doesn’t mean discrimination disappears when it becomes known. Imagine not being able to share stories and picture of your spouse with coworkers for fear of discrimination or even losing your job which was a real risk for people in the LGBTQ community until federal laws provided some protection.
Second, describing LGBTQ people as “alphabets” is dismissive and reduces real people to a caricature. The reason the LGBTQ coalition exists is that these groups have often faced similar legal and social challenges, and collective advocacy has been more effective than each group acting alone. Not complicated.
Third, the claim that Black people “default” to calling everything racism is itself a racial stereotype. Racism certainly can be over-alleged by some individuals, just as any accusation can be misused, but there is extensive historical and contemporary evidence that racial discrimination exists. Acknowledging that reality is not the same thing as claiming every unfavorable outcome is caused by racism.
Fourth, government commissions, task forces, and advisory groups are not created because one group is uniquely deserving of attention. They are created when policymakers believe a particular problem warrants focused expertise or coordination. Sometimes they are effective, sometimes they are not, but that question should be evaluated based on results, not on assumptions about the worthiness of the people involved.
Finally, “avoidance” is a poor solution for a diverse society. If the response to racial, religious, or LGBTQ differences is simply to avoid people, misunderstandings and prejudice tend to grow, not shrink. A healthier approach is to judge individuals by their actions rather than assuming things about entire groups.
One final note: Claiming ‘whites’ need saving:
White Americans have benefited enormously from government programs and protections: Social Security, Medicare, veterans’ benefits, farm subsidies, disaster relief, public schools, highways, mortgage programs, business loans, and countless other forms of public support. Few people, regardless of race, live entirely independent of government institutions.
The question shouldn’t be whether one race “needs saving” and another doesn’t. The question is whether a particular policy solves a real problem efficiently and fairly. That standard should apply to everyone.
First, I never wrote that the alphabet group was a tiny group, special interest, yes. If orientation is not visible, how can a person discriminate or be discriminated against? People of any group cannot live a full and satisfying life while always looking for discrimination.
Secondly, I did not invent the alphabet moniker. I use it because it is easier than listing half the alphabet; just acknowledging the obvious. If “alphabet” is not appreciated, find a more suitable name for their liking. I’m flexible.
Thirdly, I did not invent calling everything that Blacks don’t like discrimination, Blacks did. I was repeating the obvious, because Blacks do. Ask any honest person, Black, White, or other and they will all agree, including Blacks. If Blacks want to be liked and appreciated more, stop screaming racism at every turn and stop looking for discrimination everywhere.
Fourthly, politicians are not smart enough to notice a particular problem. Politicians react when enough people scream “look at me or I’ll wreck your political career.’
My comment about avoidance was directed at Blacks only. My avoidance recommendation was directed at Blacks only. Glad to be able to clarify that.
As far as the White benefits, EVERYONE has benefited from those you list, including fraudsters of every color, shape and size. Those listed benefits are available to all citizens, and even illegals take advantage.
First, the idea that discrimination only exists when something is “visible” misunderstands how discrimination works in real life. People don’t have to announce their sexual orientation for bias to occur—discrimination often shows up when someone does disclose it, or when assumptions are made about them in hiring, housing, healthcare, or social settings. That’s why legal protections exist: not because identity is always visible, but because unequal treatment can still occur.
Second, using “alphabet” as a label may be convenient, but it also flattens distinct groups of people into a caricature. Whether or not one agrees with the terminology, the underlying issue is that real individuals are being discussed, not an abstract acronym.
Third, attributing attitudes like “Blacks do X” or “Blacks always say Y” is itself a generalization that doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. People’s experiences with discrimination and their interpretations of it vary widely. Reducing that diversity of experience to a single “default position” is exactly the kind of broad-brush thinking that leads to misunderstanding.
Fourth, on government commissions and task forces: they are not created because any group is being “coddled,” but because policymakers identify recurring issues that require focused attention or coordination. That includes elder abuse, disability access, workplace discrimination, and other areas that affect many different populations.
Finally, the claim that government benefits are “available to all” does not address how different groups experience access to or outcomes from those programs. Universality of eligibility is not the same as equality of impact.
At its core, this debate would be more productive if it focused on specific policies and outcomes rather than attributing motivations or behaviors to entire racial or social groups based entirely on your biased view of people different than yourself.
But you be you.
Hey professor I hope you have read this post. It speaks Volumes to us common sense people. Thank you so much Term Limits.
Hey Rebel I hope you have read my response. It speaks volumes to those of us with understanding and empathy for those that have historically been discriminated against in our society.
Best wishes

Awww… gosh, I wish I were as compassionate, caring, and wonderful as you, “Professor”.
The MGBGT folk really need the help of a keyboard warrior like you, who spends hours each day going out on a limb by saying that bigotry is bad, and you’re against it.
They admire the huge sacrifice you’re making on their behalf. Because… you “care”.
What a hero.
It’s always fascinating how quickly your comments transition from “here are my arguments” to “here are my feelings about the person who disproved my arguments.”
For someone who claims to dislike identity politics, you spend an awful lot of time avoiding actual policy discussions in favor of personal attacks.
But thank you for confirming, yet again, that sarcasm is the last refuge of an argument that couldn’t survive contact with evidence.
Cheers.
————–
Nonsense.
I am forever espousing policy positions in these columns, and skewering pompous pretentious “Professors” who aren’t professors.
Anything that’s fake sickens me – and that includes you.
“Professor” started as a jab at me when you and a few others started calling me ‘Professor’, so I kept it. It’s not meant as anything more than that.
It’s ironic that a pseudonymous account is spending time critiquing someone else’s handle instead of the argument itself. But then again “Austin Morris” can’t defend his arguments or logic in the face of actual facts and history so he resorts to insults and personal attacks.
Yawn. Same garbage, different day.
philosopher f nietzsche railed against the ‘sheeple’ effect that he thought christianity had on his culture – not this ‘independence’ idea of yours !
But, but, but, certain religious groups have been defended by you that hold the same beliefs expressed by Rebel, Austin Morris, TERMLIMITS, and others. Only they go so far as to physically attack and/or kill them.
Which is it Chris…or are YOU hiding something?
I defend Christianity as a Christian myself….eventhough Christiany is frequently used as justification for attempting to strip people of individual rights.
Hope that helps. Cheers
—————-
Christianity brought the World out of the dark ages into The Enlightenment and has been an agent for individual sovereignty from the beginning. It asserts that we exist as individuals, every human possessing his own soul, and refuting notions of “community” or “society” by which humanity is reduced to sheep.
The political Left likes to treat people like cattle, since they then become easier to control. And the Left is all about control and power.
Christianity is our salvation, in every way.
It’s definitely a mix of both. Christianity has inspired incredible acts of individual heroism and freedom, but historically, it has also been used by institutions to enforce massive societal conformity. It really comes down to the individuals practicing it and whether they choose to focus on grace or control.
I argue it is the chosen tool of conservatives to reudce the individual rights people “conservstives views as less than themsleves with book bans, limiting access to doctors, rights of LGBTQ, etc….
scripture was formed by the scarce literate for the scarce literate & had/has its effect on culture. comic books do/did the same. now add radio,tv, broadway, hollywood, madison ave, tik tok, internet etc. – each with ‘believers’ with their impact on our seething culture. i’m hooked on prose, music & visual artistic expression. my conflict is ‘spectate’ vs. ‘participate’ – with real people – not ‘images’ v? the best scripture is actively in formation ? lived scripture ?
“I’m hooked on prose, music & visual artistic expression. my conflict is ‘spectate’ vs. ‘participate’ – with real people – not ‘images’ v,” spoken as a true baby boomer. At some point in the future, there will be a heavy intake of oxygen and a similar amount of carbon dioxide expelled due to the event which will be heard around the world. What you ask is this mechanical radiant energy that is transmitted by longitudinal pressure waves in a material medium (such as air) and is the objective cause of hearing (thanks Webster,) it is the sound of the last baby boomer dying and the Earth’s sigh of relief.
Is this to hurt the Alphabet People?
This is to help the entire world and is meant to stop the hurt caused by the entitled baby boomers. That one generation has caused more pain than can be measured. Good riddance.
Interesting, I assumed you were a boomer Termlimits. Are you genX?
TL being a boomer myself, I’m curious as the the “entitlements” you think we are entitled to and exactly what “pain” has my generation inflicted. Please explain your reasoning
The boomers are sometimes referred as the “Me Generation.” They started making demands in the 1960s and have not stopped. Many of the protectors today are in their 60s and 70s, some with walkers and canes. They are responsible for the cultural revolution and promoting individualism, which is selfish. They have also made materialism and consumerism art forms. They have been high on drugs since the 1960s and have promoted drugs as “cool.” They promoted 401(k)s at the expense of pension plans.
They have amassed a fortune and are folding on to it. They own multiple homes and are holding on because the homes were bought on the cheap and they see no reason to sell, which contributes to the shortage of housing. The “Me Generation” is usually defined by those born between 1946 and 1964.
Not every baby boomer fits the above description. But the generation has promoted and influenced it all. The most unsettling thing to me is the cultural revolution because it influenced all other changes.
Rebel, I am certain that you are a fine Baby Boomer. The above refers to the generation, which had enormous influence because of its size.
take your ‘soma’ & shut up. my ‘pain’ meter indicates more is needed ! bwa ha ha

My Soma is cold & wet.
Cheers Markl…. even if nobody understands your comments most of the time.
just the betas, not alphas with psychophant entourages.
Are you trying to say that a sycophant is a psycho? Why keep us guessing?
why not ? women have evolved guessing into an art form for good reasons
i am going to ‘apply’ if the ‘task’ uses my carpentry skills to build ‘closets’ for them ?
