Greensboro residents who normally have their garbage or recycling collected on Monday will sadly have to wait an extra day next week because of the Labor Day holiday.
Most City of Greensboro offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day – and there’ll be no garbage or recycling collection that day.
Monday collections will instead take place Tuesday, Sept. 8, while Tuesday collections will move to Wednesday, Sept. 9.
The White Street Landfill, Solid Waste Transfer Station and Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center will also be closed Monday.
Greensboro Public Libraries, the Greensboro History Museum and Greensboro Cultural Center will be closed for the holiday as well.
Greensboro Transit Agency buses and Access GSO will operate on a weekend schedule from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday.
Route 1 Crossmax Purple will run every 30 minutes, while all other GTA routes will run every 60 minutes.
GTA won’t provide service to Guilford Technical Community College’s Jamestown Campus on Labor Day.
Regular transit service resumes Tuesday, Sept. 8.
A number of Greensboro Parks and Recreation facilities will also be closed Monday, including department administrative offices, recreation centers, the Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation section, Greensboro Youth Council, Smith and Trotter Active Adult Centers, Xperience @ Caldcleugh, Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion and Lake Higgins.
City parks, gardens, trails and cemeteries will stay open on their normal schedules, as will the Greensboro Sportsplex, Lake Brandt, Lake Townsend and Gillespie Golf Course.
The Melvin Municipal Office Building and J. Edward Kitchen Operations Center will be closed to in-person services Monday.
Residents can still use the city’s online and other alternative methods to pay water bills.
For water and sewer emergencies, including water main breaks, sewer stoppages or changes in the taste, odor or color of drinking water, residents can call the Water Resources Department’s 24-hour dispatch line at 336-373-2033.
