The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is recruiting federal air marshals in North Carolina.

So, if you’ve ever wanted to be the one responsible for saving passengers from bad actors on commercial aircraft, now’s your chance.

The TSA Federal Air Marshal Service – not surprisingly also known as “FAMS” – is the only federal law enforcement agency specifically dedicated to protecting the skies and the nation’s transportation systems, and it’s now looking for some good people to fill entry-level federal air marshal jobs in North Carolina as well as in other spots across the country.

In that effort, the Air Marshall Service is partnering with Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) to host an “expedited hiring event” in Greensboro on Saturday, Sept. 9. This one-day fast track event will provide applicants with an opportunity to learn more about the possible career paths and will give them the option of completing an online application through USAJobs.gov.

If you want to apply, don’t head out to the airport. The job recruitment event will be held in the Summit Ball Room in the Marriott Greensboro Downtown at 304 N. Greene St. in Greensboro. It will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to a request for applicants put out by FAMS, those interested should bring the following documentation with them: “resume, two forms of government issued identification, college transcripts (if applicable), and DD-214 or SF-50 forms if they are prior military or were employed with the federal government.”

Also, “Applicants must be a U.S. or naturalized citizen between the age of 21 and 36, possess a valid driver’s license, have a minimum of three years of work experience, have a bachelor’s degree or higher. A combination of education and experience is considered. Veterans may receive a waiver allowing for employment prior to their 40th birthday. Applicants must pass a pre-employment background check, polygraph, medical evaluation and a physical fitness assessment.”

The starting annual salary range for entry-level federal air marshal jobs is $59,319 to $77,112, plus “locality pay,” which, for the Charlotte/Greensboro region is 18.63 percent.

There are a lot of perks to be had.  Benefits include paid training, paid annual and sick leave, contributions to the Thrift Savings Plan, healthcare insurance (including dental and vision), life insurance, TSA Associates Program and a Government Reimbursement for Academic Degrees program.

Not to mention that you get to leave your belt and shoes on when boarding a plane.

The TSA states that it is committed to a “diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment” and it encourages people of all backgrounds to apply, including veterans and those with disabilities.
