A decade or so ago, people were predicting the end of physical books, since reading on iPads and digital readers was becoming more popular.
However, now it’s ten years later and many readers still love the feel of a real book in their hands.
For those who do, the Friends of the High Point Public Library are offering a way to get some great books at great prices. The group will hold their fall book sale at the library on Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28.
All proceeds from the sale will go to support library programs.
The Friends of the Library are now accepting payment by credit card at the sale, as well as taking cold hard cash.
The two hour preview sale on Friday will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and that sale is for Friends of the Library members only.
The following day, Saturday, October 28, there will be a sale for the general public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The group will offer a bag sale from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
At that time, people can – for the low, low price of $4 – buy as many books as they can fit in a provided bag. The the bag sale area will be cleared at 2:45 p.m., and all items selected before then must be paid at full price.
At the event, there will also be a special sale on pocket paperbacks on Friday night and on Saturday. Attendees can buy as many paperbacks as they can fit in a brown paper bag for $10.
The Friends of the Library will also have Halloween-themed book baskets on sale starting Monday, Oct. 9, which will be on display in the lobby.

Which Library is this being held at?
Again, I have spoken to yet another person about our Library’s not accepting gifts for books, CDs, or DVDs.
The explanation this time that they had no room for me (as I saw nearly vacant shelves everywhere). Finally the desk employee had enough of my probing questions, and asked me if I thought the Library was censoring books (DUH). I said yes and asked why, and was referred to a nameless person who could help me.
Initially I referred to censorship as “burning books”. He didn’t know what I was talking about. Our local govt and their party is moving in on us, faster and faster.
