Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rogers is reporting that, on Friday, Oct. 27 at about 7:15  a.m., detention officers at the jail in downtown Greensboro found a 34-year-old white female inmate – Jennifer Renee Todd – unresponsive inside her cell, and that attempts to save Todd’s life were unsuccessful.

According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Department, “Life-saving measures were immediately rendered by detention staff and the Detention Center’s medical staff. Guilford County Emergency Medical Services were contacted and quickly responded to the Detention Center at approximately 7:26 a.m. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Todd was transported via EMS to a local hospital.”

Todd reportedly died while at the unnamed hospital on Friday, about two and a half hours after being found unconscious in her cell.

Her family has been notified, according to the department.

At this time, no foul play is suspected; however, Todd’s death is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department and that investigation is “ongoing.”

Todd was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 3:15 p.m. and processed into the jail.  She was charged with Possession of Stolen Goods and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

She was awaiting her initial court appearance – which was originally scheduled to be on Thursday, Oct. 26. However, her court appearance was rescheduled for Friday, Oct. 27 at 2:00 p.m. because of an unexpected closure of the courthouse.

According to department officials, there’s no further information to share at this time.

The statement from the department concludes: “The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of Ms. Todd during this difficult time.”
