Greensboro Downtown Parks Inc. (GDPI) is doing what it can to keep area residents healthy, and it just got a $5,000 sponsorship to help in that effort in the coming months.

The organization received the sponsorship from the Dawn S. Chaney Foundation for the slate of wellness and fitness programs it offers in LeBauer Park and Center City Park in downtown Greensboro. GDPI, which manages and operates both parks, offers fitness courses for every age and skill level. Those programs have some pretty catchy names such as Alloy Afterburn, Pilates in the Park, Power Yoga and Zumbini.

The donation will also be used to support the Women’s Wellness Series – a program that’s held in the Greensboro Cultural Center during the winter. Fitness classes in both LeBauer and Center City parks are ongoing and will continue through the end of fall.

All the classes are offered free as part of GDPI’s effort to promote “equity in access” for health programs.

GDPI Executive Director Rob Overman said in a press release that his organization is thankful for the continuing support.

“This is the second year that the Chaney Foundation has supported fitness initiatives in our downtown parks,” he stated. “This ongoing commitment truly highlights the Chaney Foundation’s commitment to supporting programs based around healthy living and overall well-being that positively impact our community.”
