Local elected leaders in Guilford County have been working hard to acquire a steady supply of COVID-19 vaccine for county residents– but that supply is invariably depleted almost as soon as it arrives.

On Tuesday, Feb. 2, Guilford County put out notice that the latest batch of vaccine was all gone or spoken for.

People may still be able to find some through other entities distributing the vaccine in central North Carolina – but Guilford County’s Division of Public health doesn’t have any right now.

“All Guilford County Division of Public Health (GCDPH) COVID-19 vaccination appointments have been filled as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2,” the notice reads.  That notice was sent out about 1 p.m.

It didn’t take long to run out. The health department’s COVID-19 vaccination appointment call center – as well as online scheduling service – began taking appointments at 8 a.m. that day for community members who are 65 years of age and older.  The county had about 5,000 doses of the vaccine available this time around, and, within two hours, all appointments through the appointment call center and online registration had been filled.

The county warned that, these days, this is always the case as soon as appointments open up for reservations.

“Due to a high demand for vaccines in Guilford County and limited supply,” the public notice stated, “appointments fill very quickly.”

If you still haven’t gotten a vaccine, and you are over 65, there some things you can do that may help you get a place in line next time:

  • Visit www.healthyguilford.com to say informed as to when vaccinations become available.
  • Subscribe for text message updates: Text GC19 to 888777 for updates in English; text GC19S to 888777 for updates in Spanish.
  • Monitor the local news to hear about vaccination supplies and available appointments.

Vaccination appointments will re-open whenever a new dosage allotment is received from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.  The county hopes for weekly supplies but given the shortage and demand nothing is ever certain.
