Guilford County has dramatically expanded its phone app for nature lovers and county officials are holding an event to get the word out.
On Friday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m., app promoters will put on a presentation and instructional session for the new “Piedmont Discovery” app upgrade.
The app, meant to provide guidance and information for those who like to enjoy outdoor activities in the county, has added parks, trails and recreational opportunities in Gibsonville, Jamestown, Oak Ridge, Pleasant Garden, Stokesdale and Summerfield.
Piedmont Discovery is a park and trail locater mobile app that’s designed and managed by the cities of Greensboro and High Point and Guilford County.
Android and Apple users alike can download the app from their respective mobile app stores.
The Oct. 1 presentation, which will be held at the Gateway Gardens Visitor Center at 2800 E. Gate City Blvd. in Greensboro, will include an app demonstration. At the event, users will also get a chance to ask questions on how to use the app and get the most out of it.
The app is one part of a broader effort by local city and county leaders to increase the healthiness of area residents by encouraging them to get outdoors more.
One very important thing the new version of the app will do is help people find Pickleball courts. Pickleball is a pastime that’s getting immensely popular in the county.
It will also help users find playgrounds, dog parks and much more.
In addition, the app offers information on indoor recreation areas and other park facilities throughout the county.
COVID-19 protocols will be in effect at the Oct. 1 presentation.
