In observance of Veterans Day, Greensboro city offices will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 11, with a number of municipal services and facilities operating on a different schedule.
There will be no garbage, recycling, bulk trash, yard waste or appliance collections that day. Instead, Tuesday’s collections will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Both the White Street Landfill and the Solid Waste Transfer Station will also be closed on November 11.
Libraries and cultural facilities will be observing the holiday as well. All Greensboro Public Library branches and the Greensboro Cultural Center will be closed Tuesday.
While many departments will pause operations, the Greensboro Transit Agency will continue running buses on a normal schedule – offering free rides to US military veterans who present identification.
City administrative offices won’t be open to the public Tuesday. That includes the Melvin Municipal Office Building and the J. Edward Kitchen Operations Center. Residents can still pay water bills online at www.greensboro-nc.gov/PayWaterBill. For water or sewer emergencies – including main breaks, sewer stoppages or issues with taste or odor – Water Resources Dispatch can be reached 24 hours a day at 336-373-2033.
Greensboro Parks and Recreation administrative offices, recreation centers, the Smith and Trotter Active Adult Centers, Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation, the Greensboro Sportsplex, Greensboro Youth Council, Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion, Xperience @ Caldcleugh, Lake Brandt, and Lake Higgins will all be closed Tuesday.
However, city parks, gardens, trails, lakes, cemeteries and Gillespie Golf Course will remain open on schedules.
Regular hours for all facilities and programs will resume Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Our veterans get three days, Veterans day, Independence Day, and Memorial Day. What other groups get a whole month?
My father enlisted in the USMC in December 1941. He was at Guadalcanal, Saipan, Okinawa, among other places. Neither he nor anyone who served in WWII did it for this shit. And I wouldn’t either.
Do you not celebrate May as National Military Appreciation Month? It’s a real thing. Stop with the BS that our military service men and women are not honored. The fact other groups are also honored takes nothing away from our military and what they have sacrificed for our country.
Chris I’m really not sure why I bother, but I’m so glad that you admitted that you’re now a democrat because in my opinion of you today You’re a left leaning liberal America hating piece of crap. God bless our military and President Donald Yrump
I love our country and hate to see Conservatives destroy it with their bigotry, ignorance and lies.
But you be you.
‘city services adjust’ . . . at central library: they were gonna close but i convinced them to stay open for VETERANS ONLY ! we had a nice buffet & strippers.
