Low-income homeowners in Greensboro may now apply for a program that could put some extra cash in their pocket this year – especially if their city property tax bill has gone up.
For the third year, the City of Greensboro is offering financial help to residents whose 2024 property tax bills are higher than they were in 2021. Qualifying homeowners may be eligible to receive a check covering the difference, provided they meet a few requirements.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Live within the Greensboro city limits
- Have a household income of $54,800 or less
- Not have received tax assistance from Guilford County programs
Applications are being accepted online and must be submitted by October 31. Residents can apply through an online portal that supports dozens of languages – including Spanish, Arabic and Khmer.
The portal requires users to create an account and then select “Low-Income Homeowner Assistance Program” from the “Start a New Application” section.
A complete list of required documents and instructions for submitting a paper application is available in the “Application Process” section of the city’s webpage. The city notes that funds are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Even those who received help in previous years will need to apply again to receive assistance this time around.
Anyone with questions about the program or applying can call Greensboro’s Housing and Neighborhood Development Department at 336-373-2275 and leave a voicemail for a return call.

Good article Scott. Since this is Greensboro, can seniors of any race apply? I’m being serious as I don’t know. Article shows only 3 requirements and guessing there must be more requirements. I thought everyones tax bill increased.
The only requirements I am aware of are the ones in the article.
Quick, everybody run down and apply so you can get at least some of the blood money you have to pay in outrageous property taxes.
