If you were saying to yourself, “Give me just a little more time to hear some beach music this summer” – well, you’re in luck because beach music royalty is coming to Greensboro for the next 2023 TowneBank Beach Music Festival concert.
The concert will feature Chairmen of the Board, known by millions across the world for hits such as Summer Love and Shaggin’ the Night Away.
The concert will be held in Downtown Greensboro on Thursday, June 29 and will be the fourth concert of the 5-week series.
Chairman of the Board will take the stage at First National Bank Field at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Gates will open up at 5:30 p.m.
The group – a huge favorite on college campuses through the decades – got its start in Detroit in 1967 and, in 1969, shot to fame with Give Me Just a Little More Time. The song sold over a million copies and climbed to number three on the Billboard charts.
Former lead singer General Norman Johnson passed away in 2010 but his spirit lives on in the group.
Tickets for the legendary act can be purchased in advance online or on the day of the concert at the Greensboro Grasshoppers’ box office. Tickets are $15 per person. Children 12 and under who are accompanied by a ticketed adult get in free.
Parking on the street is free after 6 p.m., and there are plenty of nearby parking decks to accommodate everyone who wants to come out and see the show.
Lawn chairs, pets, outside food and drink and coolers are prohibited.
Concert goers can sit in the stands or they may bring their own blanket and sit and dance on the field.
During each concert, attendees can also enjoy performances and basic shag lessons from professional Carolina shag dancers William and Lani Greene.
So far this year, the previous four concerts in the series have averaged more than 1,000 attendees each, so you should have plenty of company if you decide to come out.
What used to be funded by the City, now imposes and entrance fee. And, oh yeah, our taxes are still way up.
