The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office is calling on the community to help in its effort to offer some hurricane relief for the western part of the state with its “Together for Western NC” campaign.
The department is collecting essential supplies to help those affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.
A trailer is now parked just outside of the Sheriff’s Office, and we are asking the community to help us fill it up. The donations will be delivered to the affected areas on Friday morning.
You can drop off your donations in the Sheriff’s Office parking lot at 400 W. Washington St. in Greensboro by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3.
Let the Office staff know when you arrive so they can help you.
Here are some of the needed items that they’re accepting:
- Non-perishable food items (such as canned foods, nuts, granola bars, peanut butter, crackers)
- Bottled water
- Water containers
- Can openers
- Personal and feminine hygiene products (such as soap, toothpaste/brush, tampons, pads)
- New and packaged clothing (socks, underwear, t-shirts, gloves, blankets)
- Toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates/cups, plastic utensils
- Cleaning supplies (garbage bags, hand sanitizer, buckets, gloves, disinfectant spray)
- Baby formula, diapers and wipes, and baby bottles
- Pet food and supplies
- First-aid kits
- Flashlights and batteries
Please note, they can’t accept cash or used items.
A statement from the Sheriff’s Office notes, “It’s imperative that our community comes together in times of need. Every donation can make a difference in someone’s life.”
They also need baby BOTTLES for the formula!
While this is not time to get political, Mark Robinson is the only politician who has shown support for the area by showing up. If the primary focus of Cooper and Stein is on the Ashville area, which is loaded with democratic liberals from outside NC, then the choice is clear between Joshua Stein and Mark Robinson. Vote for Mark Robinson, a NC native. Joshua Stein is only interested in advancing his political career and advancing his father’s dream to see his son as the first Jewish governor of NC and the first Jewish president of US. Adam Stein, Joshua’s father, sashayed into NC from Washington DC to save NC from itself in the late 60s and early 70s. Adam Stein finally landed in Chapel Hill. Joshua Stein has described his father as a “community organizer.” He is also an interloper that has given a boatload of money to the Democrat party to enhance his son’s political career. Both Adam and Mark Stein attended Ivy League schools. Both Steins have insulated themselves from real North Carolinians. Joshua Stein cannot possibly relate to the Appalachian people affected by Helene. Adam Stein donated $500,000 to the NC Democrat party. Here is an apt description of Joshua Stein: https://www.longleafpol.com/p/6-reasons-why-josh-stein-is-a-weak. However the Democrats try to portray Mark Robinson, there is one undeniable truth: Mark Robinson’s experiences more closely reflect North Carolinians than Joshua and Adam Stein ever will. Vote for Mark Robinson and Donald Trump. Unlike Joshua Stein, Mark Robinson will work with Donald Trump for the benefit of NC, especially the hard-hit NC mountain victims of Helene.
Mark has no chance of winning. Even before the porn stories, Mark clearly established himself as hypocrite who can’t be trusted given his failure to pay taxes, his abortion being ok for him but not you, and his ties to the fraud within he and his wife’s non-profit. Not to mention that Mark couldn’t even be bothered to show up and vote to approve the emergency funding that people actually needed versus a photo opt with a hypocritical porn freak.
What the people of NC actually need is a leader who can be counted to take his roll seriously and put in the real work needed during emergencies such this and securing funding, coordinating emergency services to make sure they have what they need for the people of NC. Yes a visit to communicate encouragement to aid works and victims of the disaster is important but first get things done. Mark seemed only up for the photo op versus the actual work.
But you be you.
Everyone has a dark past, a choice made that is deeply regretted in the present. Chris, if your past is so pristine you can legitimately cast stones at others, then you are eligible for sainthood. Mark Robinson is not as silver-tonged as Joshua Stein. Mark Robinson did not live a life coddled by a civil rights lawyer father who made his living as a lawyer getting rich from suing others to make NC in his image of what a state should look like. You mention Robinson’s role in an abortion. Yet, liberals believe that it is the choice of the female to make an abortion decision, you know, my body, my choice. So why do you beat up Mark Robinson over an abortion choice? You are not privy to the dynamics of that choice. His personal position about abortion differs dramatically from Joshua Stein who believes in abortion on demand. I do not know the financial background that led to Mark Robinson’s bankruptcy filing. However, all bankruptcy filings are available on a federal government website. I am sure there are a lot of surprises there. Regardless, your slung arrows are from over 10 years ago. Mark Robinson, unlike Stein, is not a career politician. That’s a real advantage. He was not considering his political future while going through his tribulations at the time. Vote for Mark Robinson and Donald Trump.
Interesting that this hurricane is considered the second worst after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. I remember that President Bush was excoriated after he sent 75,000 troops, 300 helicopters and hundreds of FEMA trailers to New Orleans and Louisiana but Joe Bidet’s administration sends 1,000 troops, no helicopters and lavishes $750 each for the victims. This comes a week after he graces an $8 billion installment to what has totalled, heretofore, $240 billion to Ukraine.
Rather than working to actually ameliorate the suffering, Karamella is more concerned with the ‘equity’ of the response after spending the weekend in California at fundraisers and Pete was sunning his ineffectual a$$ on the beach.
At some point people like “Chris” will realise that democrats, by and large, hate America and traditional American values and are concerned almost exclusively in retaining political power.
Good thing Conservatives didn’t get their way and block FEMA funding increase. Will be interesting if they block the additional funds required to help our Great State recover and people can receive the aid they really need as FEMA can only spend what is in their emergency funding budget.
And please stop with the immigrant services funding used to help states deal with immigrant inflows. That is a completely different fund and while an obscene amount of money, it was not available for disaster relief regardless about how you feel about immigration. If I understand right, it was less than 10 percent of the disaster relief fund.
It dawned on me that with billions of unspent covid relief funds sitting out there, that congress might put forth the use of these funds for hurricane relief. Just saying….
Remember the billions and billions sent to Ukraine? Biden, Harris, the House and Senate Representatives dare not say or suggest that there is little relief money for NC, SC and Georgia. The billions sent to Ukraine was sent so that Ukrainians and Russians could kill each another. Those affected by hurricane Helene will feel the destruction for years to come. The destroyed and damaged infrastructure will affect livelihoods, schools, and medical care. So, Cooper, NC legislature and the NC Department of Transportation, please divert a significant amount of money going to other projects such as widening roads and spend the money on rebuilding the roads in our beautiful North Carolina mountains. The widening of roads is mostly spent to satisfy developers or for the convenience of drivers.
Congress approves relief funds, not the president. And we all know Biden doesn’t hold back spending money. To be clear it was conservatives that wanted to vote against the recent pump in FEMA relief funds.
Chris, FEMA relief funds go to individuals who are victims of a disaster. FEMA is not involved in rebuilding infrastructure. It is the infrastructure that will be the long-term problem as victims try to find their footing. Chris, how many people living in the area affected by the flood do you estimate had flood insurance: 10%, 20%, less? Homeowner insurance does not cover flood damage or mudslides. In fact, flood insurance does not cover mudslides or any earth movement. While flood insurance might be reasonable, an added insurance premium can be unreachable for some. It was about infrastructure rebuilding that my comment was addressing, not FEMA funds.
