The Guilford County Sheriff’s Department and other local law enforcement agencies did not get a break from responding to gun violence calls over the holiday season.
Now that January is well under way, it’s clear those calls will continue to come in locally as they have been nationally.
On the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 25, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department reported that, earlier in the day, there was a shooting incident in Jamestown that resulted in one death.
A press release from the department stated that, on Wednesday at 4:58 a.m., deputies responded to a call regarding a shooting at 106 Woodleigh Ct. in Jamestown.
When Deputies arrived on the scene, they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. That victim later died from those wounds.
On Wednesday evening, the victim’s name and other details were being withheld by the department until family members could be notified.
The press release stated that at this time the shooting “appears to be an isolated incident with no risk to the general public.”
Officers have arrested a suspect, whose name they did release Wednesday: Crystal Constance Bennett was charged with one count of first-degree murder. She’s currently being held in the Guilford County Detention Center in High Point under no bond.
The department’s press release noted that, though the suspect is in custody, the investigation regarding the shooting is active, and department officials requested that anyone with information pertaining to the incident call Guilford County Crime Stoppers at 336- 373-1000 or call Sheriff’s Department Detective J. Robertson at 336-641-5969.
