From Rhino Reader Alan Marhsall
The MSM and their lackeys are screaming about the sky falling, the Sun rising in the west, cats and dogs living together, it is, according to the “experts”, the beginning of the end of life as we know it.
President Trump is imposing tariffs on imported items so everybody…no, not everybody, only the undereducated, under informed Democrat drones, believe this is going to drive the price of EVERYTHING up to the point that only the rich (D&R) would be able to live a good life.
MEADOW MUFFINS!!!
The tariffs apply only to those items that are, for the most part, imported from other countries. Yes, the price of an item will go up quite a bit based on the tariff of that particular IMPORTED item. The tariffs do not apply to those items manufactured in this country. I saw a great example on a tic toc video. A manufacturer held up a lighter and said that item costs $25.00. A comparable lighter manufactured in China costs $20.00 before the tariff is applied and raises the price to $30.00 in this country. The American made lighter stays the same price but is cheaper than the imported one. Even a Democrat voter can see the difference, at least you would hope. American vehicle manufacturers are offering employee pricing to the general public. Other American companies are starting to offer deals as well.
The Democrats and their Stasi henchman (aka the (National Socialist) Democrat Party wing) will do their best to hide this simple fact from American consumers with lies and deception.
Is this going to hurt? Without a doubt yes. There are some items we cannot manufacture so we must import them. But the alternative is far worse in the long run.
There are already countries (Argentina, Viet Nam for example) coming to us to renegotiate trade deals, in some cases imposing no tariffs on American goods.
I am in no way saying this is going to work but considering the alternative, it’s worth a try. And I personally think it WILL work, if we have the backbone to stick with it.
And yes Chris, I took a bath on the market…for now. But I’m not giving in. I’ve been poor before, I can be again and work back up. I will survive.
Carpe Diem and buy American
Alan Marshall

You are missing a several keys points. Where is the steel and building materials going to come from to build the factories that will handle the massive increase in manufacturing capacity to keep up this ,’insourcing idea’? Where will all the chips come from since Trump wants to cancel the Chips Act and we lack the capacity to keep up with even a small portion of our demand? Where will the manufacturing labor come from since we have driven off illegal and legal immigration with the violent approach to border protection given the US is near full employment? How will the economy handle foreign companies/governments that no longer purchase US products given the abandonment of them as global trade partners? How will we source raw materials we don’t have available in the US? How will source off season produce and vegetables we have come to enjoy? I will give you a hint…we will pay higher prices in the form of tariffs (ie a tax) because it will take decades to transition to US manufacturing to replace all of our imports. If that even makes sense (it doesnt).
Not to mention the decline of demand for US treasuries required to fund the massive budget deficits Trump wants to increase?
THEN add this on top of Trump defunding all the innovative research that makes the US a leader in tech and science. And the pushing away foreign students from our advanced Universities thst help drive our leadership in science and tech.
It’s not complicated. The US is in for a long road of pain and economic decline with Trumps big bang approach to change in the global markets.
If you don’t want to trust actual experts just wake up and stop the blind support foxnews tells you to have and think with common sense. It will take decades ti bring the degree if manufacturing back onshore if we wholesale cut off our foreign trade relations.
Alan, you love to claim demcrats are destroying America but you never are able to say how except for your fear of immigrants. Just so you know, what Trump is doing is how you REAlLLY destroy the leading economy in the world!
But you be you.
Alan, with all the Democratic hand wringing and fear mongering, I decided it would be a good time to put some more money in my S&P 500 IRA, as I did when it tanked during COVID. I discovered that the index is UP by about 1.5% over the last 12 months! So for every $100 I had in it last year, I now have $101.50.
And the March jobs report was much stronger than expected, along with reduced inflation.
It’s all looking good to me.
“Keep on the sunny side.”
Oh, and consumer sentiment is now back on par with scores at the peak of the inflation impact to consumers.
And yet, you think all this is a good thing. Amazing.
The feelings of consumers are not hard economic data. Inflation, job growth, and stock market performance are.
In the real world, everything’s fine, despite chicken little Lefties like you squealing and shrieking like the sky is falling. You’re just playing politics, and everyone can see it.
They directly coorelate to consumer spending trends. Given we are a cussumption based economy, yes it matters. It matters a ot. But keep your head in sand so you can continue to pretend Trump has some grand plan. Lmao
I pretend nothing. I presented facts.
You can’t accept them – because they conflict with your prejudices.
– So… which one of us has his head in the sand?
Fact is consumer sentiment is a key economic indicator watched and used by economist in forecasting future GDP growth. Are we pretending surveys are not real data now? You must have sand between your ears from burying your head so much.
But you be you
* The S&P 500 is up, job creation is much stronger than expected, and inflation is down.
In this idiot’s world that means that Trump is trashing the economy.
Somebody doesn’t understand that the tariffs have just started to take effect. So far, we can only look at leading indicators from the markets such as consumer sentiment (yes, it’s a real thing), stock markets (the Dow is down over 4k from its peak), bond yields (are up but stabilizing), and value of the dollar (which is down but stabilizing).
The macroeconomic metrics will take a full quarter of Trump’s erratic tariff bully strategy to show up in the numbers. leading indicators say it won’t be pretty.
But you be you
Time will tell won’t it, Genius Boy?
We sure did well under his first term, didn’t we?
But you remain in your Alice in Wonderland, where up is down and Left is right.
LOL, I clearly don’t take myself as seriously as you do. You old grump.
Chris,
“You are missing a several keys points. Where is the steel and building materials going to come from to build the factories that will handle the massive increase in manufacturing capacity to keep up this ,’insourcing idea’? ”
You’re so right (as you always are). We have no capacity to manufacture chips in this country. We will have to kowtow to countries like China to get our chips. I’l be sure to let my friends in the chip manufacturing industry know.
“Where will the manufacturing labor come from since we have driven off illegal and legal immigration with the violent approach to border protection given the US is near full employment? ”
Again, your infinite wisdom comes out. Unless we reopen our borders to the flood of ILLEGAL immigration with the knowledge of being able to work in the industry we will never get anywhere. Oh wait, how many of them have that level of education and language comprehension to do that sort of work again? As for LEGAL immigrants, when did I or Alan EVER have a problem with that…oh yeah, NEVER.
“How will the economy handle foreign companies/governments that no longer purchase US products given the abandonment of them as global trade partners? ”
So I guess the report of of 50+ countries (and growing) lining up to talk trade is so much BS.
Final point. due to time constraints and a desire to support a close friend, brother in arms, and a real man (unlike some)…
“Alan, you love to claim demcrats are destroying America but you never are able to say how except for your fear of immigrants.”
I defy you to show a documented case supporting your lying, talking out of your a** comment (a usual for you) where Alan has expressed a “…fear of immigrants.”
“Unless we reopen our borders to the flood of ILLEGAL immigration with the knowledge of being able to work in the industry we will never get anywhere.” You are missing the point, Trump’s heavy handed immigration policies has limited the flow of skilled labor. Even some of the most skilled. For example, at our universities, students are electing to NOT risk a student visa for advanced degrees or fellowships. And these are a good part of the source of advance skilled jobs in STEM type professions.
In addition, kicking out long-term immigrants (as well as legal refugees where he is pulling their SS so they can’t work) you are losing a base of skilled workers. Hense why most Dem immigration reform bills wanted an amnesty for immigrants that have sustained longer careers in our industries long ago paid pack in productivity the cost of their ‘illegal’ immigration. (Again, I remind you that crossing the border illegally is a misdemeanor under current law.)
So, I am not promoting the idea of new illegal immigrants. Just the loss of long established ‘illegals’. Apologies if I wasn’t clear enough.
Goodwill has real value. So, if you think countries are just going to bend a knee with no long-term implications you are strongly disagree. Plus, those reports are based strictly on Trumps words which we all know are hollow (unless you have source that isn’t relying on Trump administration ‘word’ regarding negotiations with a biggly number of countries begging). Going forward, the US will be a second choice for trade relations wherever possible with many if not most of these countries.
My favorite quote of Alan being in fear of immigrants is his letter to the editor where he gave a dooms day scenario about immigrant kids running amuck and driving up crime due to the designation of holding facility (i believe it was a long-ago closed Jewish school?) in Greensboro (that was never used). It really was a pathetic take on the actual circumstances. Almost as stupid as Trump’s ‘They are eating pets’ BS.
But tell me, how you believe our allies such as Canada, EU, and Asia will ever view us as a reliable trading partner given the on / off approach to tariffs and humiliating langued used by Trump in on their response or lack of response? When has being an a$$hole bully been a good negotiating strategy for building productive long-term relationships?
Readers in general
Chris,
In your first paragraph you apparently think you’ve managed a ‘gottcha’ by using the “Unless we reopen our borders…” line until you add the follow on sentence of “Oh wait, how many of them have that level of education and language comprehension to do that sort of work again?” In the words of a TV character catching themselves in a screw up, “Did I do that?” The rest makes no sense. Cite your sources, if you can.
“In addition, kicking out long-term immigrants (as well as legal refugees where he is pulling their SS so they can’t work) you are losing a base of skilled workers.” First a correction, “long-term immigrants…” should read ‘long-term ILLEGAL immigrants’, also refugees cannot get, nor do they qualify for SS. As for “…crossing the border illegally is a misdemeanor under current law.”, misdemeanor or felony, a foreign national has broken our law, but you don’t seem to mind that.
“So, I am not promoting the idea of new illegal immigrants. Just the loss of long established ‘illegals’. Apologies if I wasn’t clear enough.” Is that anything like sort of being pregnant, or ‘I only meant to wound him’? Let me put it in simply words a multi-diploma holding individual can understand…THEY BROKE THE LAW.
On your “Goodwill has real value.” paragraph, it’s obvious one of those multiple degrees is NOT in economics or how trade works. Again cite your sources.
On your comment of Alan being in fear of (illegal) immigrants, I can speak from first hand experience that is the stupidest thing you can say about the man. I haven’t seen the quote you attribute to him but I’m sure it’s been twisted.
Trump is, IMO, a showman who got into politics. I don’t agree with everything he says and does and do consider some it outrageous. If you are silly enough to take EVERYTHING he says seriously, you are showing how truly foolish you are. But I will say he has, for the most part, been an effective leader. As for your belief that other countries will begin treating us as an unreliable trading partner, I think I’ll put my money on the “…a$$hole bully…”.
“Not complicated. They broke the law” – Chrissy, recent comment.
Sometimes this hypocrite believes in the rule of law, and sometimes he does not. Leftists like him have no intellectual integrity or consistency, PH.

The source for adding immigrants to the SS master death file.
Alan had time to write yet another ignorant letter so why not defend it…oh right. Alan never includes facts, data, or sources in his rants. He just repeats conservative propaganda from foxnews who was successfully sued for promoting known false narratives.
In terms of Trump costing us skill labor, Duke grad programs in science and engineering are struggling to fill their typical demand due to significant drops in foreign national students. Many who drive our top research programs and stay to work after completing their degrees. (Source, Chair of Duke grad program who a personal friend)
If you think being a bully a$$hole is the right form of diplomacy with our long term allies, that says a lot about your personal integrity and makes me grateful to not know you personally.
But, end of the day, the numbers will tell. So far they strongly indicate failure. Most indicative is rising long term treasury rates and the declining value of the dollar.
But you be you.
Thanks PH, I appreciate you having my 6.
Yet again, Alan can’t defend his own opinion.
Chris,
You’re right, Alan can’t defend his own opinion because his time is being taken by a very important personal problem that has him on the sidelines. But as he said, I’ve got his 6, always have and always will.
All the “major” countries have said they will negotiate with Trump on tariffs, except China, and Trump has them hanging onto the side of a cliff, ready to fall.
LOL, that’s what Trump says but we know Trump is prone to slight exaggeration. And by slight, I mean biggly to use Trumps words.
Chris seems to forget what President Obama said ten years ago: “I will not stand by when our competitors don’t play by the rules… That’s why we have to make sure the United States—and not countries like China—is the one writing this century’s rules for the world’s economy.”
Sure. Shooting our economy in face is not the fix it strategy Trump thinks it is. A real solution would be far more focused and targeted. But focus for the old fat orange isn’t really his thing.
Really…? You’re down to calling the President “the old fat orange” ?
Chris has the mentality and maturity of a teenager. And a stupid one at that.

Austin,
Think about what happens to an annoying plant when you don’t feed it, water it, and simply don’t show any attention.
Just saying.
He is like a little child or an annoying plant, I guess. I’d love to argue with an intellectually honest liberal, but he’s not it. I’m talking about Left wing stars like Christopher Hitchens, or Daniel Patrick Moynihan, or Joe Lieberman. Those guys understood truth, and weren’t just trying to score points in a self-congratulatory exercise in intellectual masturbation.
Chris is.
That’s why he’s here.
It must be sad and frustrating to wake up daily in the minority.
Lol, the guy who calls me childish names on the regular tells me to grow up. LMAO
More typical hypocrisy from a conservative. Yawn.
Chris, you just keep on “LOL”ing and “LMAO” as you laugh at your own jokes, you pathetic little wanker.
Lol, and Joe Bidum will be coming out giving a speech on social security! Got to listen to this one!!!!
I must have missed it but I don’t see any of the MSM outlets playing video clips of Nancy and Chuck calling for tariffs against China in the 90’s. At the time they forcefully spoke in support of protecting the US by imposing tariffs on China to protect American jobs. They were then, and are today, like willowy delicate annual flowers that die after one season and follow the winds as one year they want tariff’s and then say PRESIDENT TRUMP is killing American business by imposing tariffs they use to champion.
PRESIDENT TRUMP will bring manufacturing jobs back to America. Remember when Barry Obama said that getting manufacturing jobs back to America was just a pipe dream. He asked Mitt Romney what magi wand he was going to wave to make this happen. Well PRESIDENT TRUMP does not need a magic wand. He has the VISION, EXPERIENCE TOUGH BUSINESS EXPERIENCE AND THE WILLINGNESS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
We get a lot of medicine from China. But China doesn’t have the expertise and safeguards to make sure the medicine they make will work as needed. A family member has a rare heart condition and the doctor at the Cleveland Clinic said to stay away from any medicine made in China because it would not work. China’s only pharmaceutical ‘expertise’ is in the creation and exportation of fentanyl that kills thousands of Americans each year.
Placing tariffs on every country in the world will lead to a level playing field where all countries can compete for customers. Already 75+ countries are lining up to work out deals. THAT’S GREAT FOR AMERICA. Fctories built in America will make products where MADE IN AMERICA means you are buying a good product at a fair price and supporting American citizens. PRESIDENT TRUMP wants to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. He wants to MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN. He wants to CREATE GOOD PAYING JOBS IN AMERICA AGAIN. DO YOU WANT THAT TOO? STAND WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP AND SUPPORT HIM AS HE WORKS TIRELESSLY FOR ALL OF US.
Ken,
Well said my friend.
Unlike the ‘professional politicians’ of the past and present, there is now a person in the White House with the proper anatomical parts to not only stand up and say what needs to be done, but to take steps to GET it done.
Is it going to be the right thing? Nobody (maybe with the exception of the All Knowing Chris) can say for sure., but from what I’ve seen so far it is, for the most part, working. No plan is perfect, there will be bumps. And the sycophant MSM will jump on any and every one of those bumps trying to make it appear it’s going to hell in a hand basket, but I believe, for the most part, the majority of American people, at a minimum, have taken on a “at least he is trying to do something” attitude and are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
This is not going to be an overnight project. It will take time and there will be problems. But instead of throwing up his hands and saying “well, I tried”, President Trump will step back, regroup, and drive on. We the People just need to understand this and buckle in for the long haul.
The next thing the Democrats are going to try is to push to gain control of one or both chambers of Congress. If that happens it will make things even more difficult to fix. Republicans/Conservatives need to work hard to get out the vote to, at a minimum, maintain the hold on the House and the Senate, but if possible increase the numbers to get the job done.
The Democrats, via the (National Socialist) Democrat Party wing, are making this easier with people like Bernie, AOC, and the Senator going to El Salvador fighting to bring back an MS-13 gang member…I mean an American dad (cough, cough). Add to this the backing of people blatantly, openly calling for things like a 100% (I think) tax on anyone making more then $1,000,000, free collage for all, and free universal healthcare for all. The one thing you never hear from wackos like this is how is it going to get paid for?
As I said, I believe we are the right path. Now the hard part is staying there.
