Time To Remove Police Officers From Schools
Dear Editor,
Have you seen the online video of the 6 year old girl begging police officers not to arrest her? Officer Dennis Turner arrested 6-year-old Kaia Rolles because she threw a tantrum and kicked a school staff member. Kaia begged for a second chance, and begged school staff members for help. She didn’t get any help.
Dennis Turner was eventually fired, but not for arresting a 6-year-old. He was fired because he didn’t get permission for the arrest from his watch commander. And get this, officer Turner had arrested a 6-year-old boy at another school on the same day. Apparently he did get permission for that arrest. Six-year-old girls shouldn’t be arrested for throwing tantrums.
I think that it is time to remove police officers from schools.
Chuck Mann
Chuck if you do not want police officers in school as resource officers, then why don’t you volunteer for this position.
It is obvious that you have no comprehension of the disrespect, lack of obedience, and violence toward teachers that takes place in the school system on a daily basis. The fact is simple, if parents do not teach their children how to behave, then someone else must step up and do their job. If children cannot adhere to rules at this age, how do you think they will act when they get to be adults? It may have been a hard lesson for this child, but maybe she will learn a valuable lesson. This is one of the reasons we cannot keep qualified teachers in the public schools and why middle and upper class parents are fleeing from enrolling their children in public school systems.
It sounds bad, but with Chuck Mann’s letters you always have to wonder what the rest of the story is.
Cops are sorry little creeps. Psychological profiling consistently demonstates that low intelligence/high control personalities are drawn to law enforcement.
In other words, tbet’re just Bullies With Badges.
Chuck,
Did you read that this 6 year old girl kicked the teacher? I wish the whole scene had been on video. You may have had more sympathy for the teacher or all the students who lost valuable learning time. I suspect this was not the first time this child had misbehaved and disrupted class time.
Many children don’t appear to receive discipline these days. Perhaps arresting her could be a good thing! Bad behavior should have consequences!
Parents should teach good manners and responsibility! Teachers are there to teach reading, math, etc!
If she kicked a teacher, she should have her behind kicked. My wife was a teacher. I know what goes on in the classroom. I wouldn’t recommend public baby-sitting (teaching) as a career for anyone. These kids are beginning to run the country now. We have nowhere to hide.
