A Letter From Rhino Times Reader Alan Burke
According to the most generous statistics, 27% of Harvard students are international.  Education experts will compare apples to fruit and argue that there aren’t enough qualified US applicants.  Harvard is one of the most selective universities in the country.  It rejects massive numbers of qualified domestic applicants each year.  Only small local private/state schools will have to accept international students due to lack of interest.  The government finances research for two reasons.  First, it needs the actual research.  Second, to educate researchers.  We are failing to fund the education of 27% domestic researchers.  Equity supporters have demanded college admission be race based.  There are 27% lost opportunities for African American, Native American, and Asian American students at Harvard.

Democrats spent 9 years censoring internet activities to reduce foreign influence.  General Flyn was destroyed for speaking with a foreign citizen.  Harvard incentivized international students, some are likely agents of their governments, to participate in political violence during midterms and finals.  Conservative speakers have been chased of campus due to violence caused by liberal campus opposition groups.  How many of Harvard’s 27% international student body took part in censoring conservative groups?

Equity policies are destroying American education in order to “level the playing field.”  Some colleges stopped requiring entry exams.  Several districts have eliminated Advanced Placement/honors courses and watered down curriculums.  This reduced minority and poor students’ opportunities to distinguish themselves in college, job, and internship applications.  The remaining factors are heavily influenced by family resources/connections.  The same equity experts ignore the oversized influence of Ivy League institutions.  Harvard students/graduates have more access to prestigious government/private internships and post graduate jobs than most.  As a result, Harvard students will be more likely to be selected than an equally qualified candidate from UNCG or NC A&T.  Ironically there are thousands of universities across the US that have higher percentage of minority graduates than Harvard.  Yet, these institutions, their minority and other disadvantaged students, are often frozen out of prestigious opportunities.  This isn’t the early 1900’s.  Many universities lacking the Ivy’s name recognition have strong mature and competitive academic programs.  However, their students are being passed up for opportunities.

International students are culturally rewarding.  However, federal and state governments need to prioritize American students.  International students deserve free speech.  This doesn’t include harassing fellow students or occupying/damaging property.  We need to address the preferential hiring of influential university graduates over similar applicants from other institutions.
