A Letter From Rhino Reader Austin Morris
In Wednesday’s Budget Speech the British Chancellor of the Exchequer unveiled a series of tax increases and new taxes that, according to the OBR (Office for Budget Responsibility) will raise the tax burden to THE HIGHEST EVER ON RECORD, including all periods of war.
Working Britons are now essentially slaves to the state.
As if to confirm the reintroduction of feudalism, Darren Jones, the assistant to the Prime Minister, is advocating the abolition of jury trials for all but the most grave offences (like murder). This right has been exercised by free men in England since it was enshrined in the Magna Carter in 1215. So, dear serfs, your fate will now be decided by a judge – whether you like it or not. The government that makes the rules will decide whether you have broken them. That’s justice?
And in her analysis, the Chancellor admitted that the introduction of Mandatory Digital ID will cost billions. That seemed to be her main concern. She is not at all worried by the abolition of privacy this measure will usher in. Or the state’s ability to control your money – and you.
In the coming years Americans will be shocked and dismayed by news coming out of Britain. What was once a beacon of freedom and justice to the World has become a de facto dystopia of socialism, much like the England of Nineteen Eighty-Four.
Britain is becoming a Third World Country, and a totalitarian one as well.
It gives me a heavy heart to witness the decline of my dear old country, but decades of
“Progressive” policies will bring down any nation.
“Progressive” policies will bring down any nation.
This is how Leftism always ends.

Good thing the US has the US Constitution. Too bad conservatives ignore it. Hopefully the courts will slowly play catchup and save US democracy.
Or maybe a better path would be that all the liberal socialist leave the US and let things return to normal
I prefer the party that fights for the rights protected by Constitution. I also supoort Social security and Medicare. Are those socialist programs we should abandon?
Note, the US has never been a pure capitalist country. We are and have always have been a mixed economy with a range of socialist elements that provide a safety net for our most vulnerable citizens such as the elderly, the disabled, and the poor. But also for core services such as education and defense.
It is what makes us a great country.
But you be you.

What were the “socialist elements” of the US during its first century of existence?
You know, when it grew from being an undeveloped wilderness into being a nascent superpower.
Kinda a silly question given that we weren’t yet the United States of America until we had settlement of the eastern US and beat the brits in the Revolutionary War so let’s start there…. So, the first socialist elements were limited to public education and public defense and security, but you can argue those weren’t ‘true socialist ideas’ as they were more just a collection of local services for a national good. The first large-scale social policy program in the United States was assistance to Union Civil War veterans and their families. (this was based off of English ‘poor laws’ by the way).
The real kick in of social programs was after the unregulated US capitalist model collapsed during the Great Depression. Then came the social programs to help those impacted by our long deep history of racism that continues to exist today. etc.. etc.. etc.. etc.. etc..
Happy to fill you in on the early American history if you like….topics such as the early debates over a centralized banking system, need for a national army etc… are really interesting.
Socialist elements really kicked in around the end of the civil war. Interestingly, they were based off existing British ‘poor laws’ and were used to help Union Family’s after the war. Beyond the other more obvious policies of common defense, public education etc…the real kick in of socialist elements was after the unregulated capitalist markets killed the US economy and started the Great Depression. It was then that federal oversight and safety nets were greatly appreciated by all. If not for the economic benefit of being the only superpower not impacted by WWII from a production capacity standpoint, the US ‘good ‘ol days’ that are sold as the American Dream today would never have happened and we would likely have seen a greater move to continue to contain the growth of the wealth gap that conservative policies continue to drive up today.
Hope that helps.

Blah… blah… blah…. Irrelevant ramblings of an inferior mind.
Chris claimed that “the US has never been a pure capitalist country”. Wrong!
And when corrected, he sheepishly admitted that socialistic elements only began to appear after The War for Southern Independence (1861-1865).
But don’t expect an admission of error from this wanker: in his own mind he’s never wrong.
The US HAS never been a pure capitalist society. From the day the US was founded, trade was regulated by the federal government and has increased ever since. For example:
1) The U.S. Constitution granted the federal government powers to regulate interstate commerce, coin money, establish post offices, and protect intellectual property through patents and copyrights.
2) The government consistently used protective tariffs to nurture domestic industries (a policy advocated by Alexander Hamilton) and provided massive land grants and subsidies for infrastructure projects like the transcontinental railroads.
3) The existence of a massive system of enslaved labor in the South, protected and regulated by the state, fundamentally contradicts the principles of a “fully free” market economy based purely on voluntary exchange.
Austin is wrong again but his mindset of willful ignorance will keep him from admitting it. Yawn.
———-
None of those things impinge on the free market system, in fact some are necessary for its functioning (like the need to coin money).
Chris is a very confused little wanker.
The Laissez Faire economies of Adam Smith’s “Wealth of Nations” forged forward in previously unseen leaps of prosperity, and brought millions out of a grinding life consisting of the struggle to just survive.
The UK pioneered this and became the first industrial nation in the 19th Century, and the US and Germany followed suit, with their greater populations and resources inevitably overtaking Great Britain, around 1900.

Exactly right!
Thank God America has a written Constitution.
And conservatives don’t ignore it, they try to preserve it.
Trump has written executive orders in direct violation of the constitution. Heck he even talks about running for a third term. Not to mention ignoring due process, violations against first amendment, violating separations of power clause, etc….etc…etc….
So no, conservatives have no concern for protecting constitutional rights.
