There are a lot of people who have ideas as to how Guilford County should run its new animal shelter, which just opened a few months ago.
On Monday, Jan.10, Guilford County government announced the meeting dates in 2022 for the Guilford County Animal Services Advisory Board, which oversees animal shelter and animal control services in the county. At each meeting, the board conducts their business in the open, and, usually at the beginning of each meeting, allows for public comment.
Here are the meeting dates for this year:
- Thursday, January 27
- Thursday, March 10
- Thursday, May 12
- Thursday, July 14
- Thursday, Sept. 8
- Thursday, Nov. 10
All of the Animal Services Advisory Board meetings are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
In recent years, the board has met in the Blue Room in the Old Guilford County Court House in downtown Greensboro. However, now that the county has a shiny brand new shelter with meeting space, the board will hold the meetings on location right next to the cats and dogs that the board’s decisions affect.
The “Guilford County Animal Resource Center,” as the new shelter is called, is at 980 Guilford College Road in Greensboro.
Though Animal Services Advisory Board meetings don’t get the same attention that Guilford County Board of Commissioners meetings do, those meetings can be very well attended and can also get very heated when there’s disagreement among all of the animal lovers in the room as to what’s best for those animals.
Given that the new shelter just began operations, there will be a lot more questions in 2022 as to how to handle the animals than there were in previous years when the animals were being kept out at the old and failing shelter at 4525 W. Wendover Ave.
