Greensboro Police Department Headquarters at 100 Police Plaza in downtown Greensboro became a crime scene Friday afternoon, Aug. 27.
According to the police report, at approximately 3:08 p.m. an individual who has not been identified set fire to a police vehicle in the police headquarters parking lot. When approached by police the individual assaulted a police officer. Three officers fired their weapons at the suspect and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
One officer was injured in the incident and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) will conduct an investigation of the incident. The Greensboro Police Department’s Professional Standards division will also conduct an investigation to determine if Greensboro Police Department policies were followed and as is departmental policy all officers involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave.
Police Chief Brian James held a press conference shortly after the incident but did not have much additional information at that time. He did say that the officer who was injured suffered “injuries consistent with a physical assault.”
James also said the police were investigating the motive for the suspect coming into the police headquarters parking lot and setting a police vehicle on fire.
South Eugene Street and Federal Place from McGee Street to West Washington Street and West Washington Street were all closed to traffic following the incident and were reopened later in the evening.
Through Aug. 21 of this year there have been 1,236 aggravated assaults in Greensboro. However, having a vehicular fire, assault and shooting at police headquarters is highly unusual.
Body cams? Unarmed or armed? We will never know probably. Hopefully GPD didn’t execute an unarmed mentally ill person.

NCGS 15A-401(d)(2) states
A law-enforcement officer is justified in using deadly physical force upon another person for a purpose specified in subdivision (1) of this subsection only when it is or appears to be reasonably necessary thereby:
a. To defend himself or a third person from what he reasonably believes to be the use or imminent use of deadly physical force;
b. To effect an arrest or to prevent the escape from custody of a person who he reasonably believes is attempting to escape by means of a deadly weapon, or who by his conduct or any other means indicates that he presents an imminent threat of death or serious physical injury to others unless apprehended without delay; or
c. To prevent the escape of a person from custody imposed upon him as a result of conviction for a felony.
That translates to once said thug committed violent felonies including actively assaulting and causing serious injury to an officer, those who responded to help followed the law, dispatched the threat (via what those in the medical profession call a celestial discharge) Do not pass go, do not collect $200, a one way ride straight to hell. The officers then went home to their families at the end of the day. Except the one that is still hospitalized due to said thugs actions.

Oreos, on the other hand, are the same size and quality cookies, just a smaller package. In the early 60s, a pound of Nabisco saltines was 37c, now they are $2 and more, but the same product and size. Blue Bell ice cream is the same quality and size, higher price is not disguised.
Krispy Kreme, however, is at the apex of the sneaky (and crappy) list. Best donut place I’ve found locally is “Donut World” @ 5561 W. Market St. Try the buttermilk bars, apple fritters, crullers…..

I strongly suspect that the “assault” on the cop was self defense, after all a man with a gun and a history of getting away with murder approached him in an attacking manner. People are tired of police abuse and I would say the fire is a reasonable way to deal with that, the cop escalated the violence instead of leaving the civilian alone
