Monday, May 26 is of course Memorial Day and if you use the City of Greensboro’s services, transportation or facilities, here are a few things you need to know about the holiday this year.
First of all, feel free to head down to city hall, but you won’t be able to get in because city offices will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
Also, there will be no trash or recycling collection that day. Instead, if your collection date was supposed to be Monday, it will instead take place on Tuesday, May 27. Tuesday’s collections will be moved back a day to Wednesday, May 28. All other collection days that week will remain the same.
The White Street Landfill and Transfer Station will be closed on May 26.
Also on Memorial Day, GTA will operate on a Saturday schedule hourly – from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Route 11 won’t serve the GTCC Jamestown campus that day. Access GSO will offer services on a Saturday schedule from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The Greensboro Public Libraries, History Museum, and Cultural Center will all be closed on Memorial Day.
Some city space can still be enjoyed on this holiday Monday: All City parks, trails, and greenways will remain open. And if you want to hit the links, Gillespie Golf Course will operate on its normal schedule. You can call 336-373-5850 if you want to get a tee time.
Lake Brandt and Lake Townsend will be open from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. but Lake Higgins will be closed that day.
City pools and spraygrounds will open for the season on Saturday, May 24, and they’ll be open May 25 and 26 – pending the expected successful completion of Guilford County Health Division inspections and permitting.
The following Parks and Recreation Department facilities will be closed for the holiday: administrative offices, recreation centers, Greensboro Sportsplex, Smith Active Adult Center, Trotter Active Adult Center, Xperience @ Caldcleugh, Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion at Barber Park.
Greensboro Youth Council facilities will be closed.
The J. Edward Kitchen Operations Center will be closed to all in-person services on May 26. Alternative ways to pay a water bill can be found online at the city’s site. For water and sewer emergencies, including main breaks and sewer stoppages, or changes in the taste, odor, or color of your drinking water, you can call Water Resources 24-hour Dispatch at 336-373-2033.
