A multi-agency law enforcement effort resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old man wanted for a lengthy list of criminal charges after authorities located him at a residence in neighboring Forsyth County.
According to a press release issued Monday, March 16 by the Greensboro Police Department, officers with the department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team worked alongside agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation’s Criminal Apprehension Team to track down and take down Timothy Benton.
Investigators found Benton on Sunday, March 9 at a residence on the 5300 block of Cedar Green Drive in Walkertown and attempted to serve several outstanding warrants.
Police say Benton refused to leave the residence voluntarily.
At that point, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office activated its SWAT team and its negotiations team to assist in the situation. After what officials described as an extended period of time, members of the sheriff’s office SWAT team entered the residence and removed Benton.
Authorities then transferred Benton to the custody of the Greensboro Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, which served him with a series of warrants.
Those warrants include four counts of misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, possession of a stolen firearm, two counts of child abuse, resisting, delaying and obstructing a law enforcement officer, a tinted window violation, assault on a female, failure to carry a registration card, communicating threats, break/enter to terrorize or injure an occupant, larceny and injury to personal property.
Police say those charges stem from multiple open criminal investigations.
In the release, Lt. Cassandra Dark of the Greensboro Police Department said the arrest demonstrates the importance of cooperation among agencies when dealing with suspects who have outstanding warrants.
“This operation reflects the continued collaboration between local and state law enforcement agencies to safely apprehend individuals with outstanding warrants while prioritizing the safety of the public and officers involved,” Dark said.
Officials didn’t report any injuries during the operation.
