A Guilford County Detention Services officer has been charged with misdemeanor assault in a case the Sheriff’s Office says occurred while he was working a private security job off duty.

Sheriff Danny Rogers reported that Detention Services Officer Chase Douglas Dixon, 42, turned himself in at the Guilford County Detention Center in Greensboro on Friday, Sept. 12.

Dixon, who is charged with “Misdemeanor Assault Inflicting Serious Injury,” was released on a written promise to appear in court.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Saturday, Aug. 23. A warrant was issued on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025.

The Sheriff’s Office waited until Tuesday, Sept. 16 to issue a press release but did not state why it waited until 10 days after the warrant was issued.  The Rhino Times had been tipped off the information at the first of the week and no doubt other news agencies were as well.  At times in the past, the Sheriff’s Office has been closed mouthed about some embarrassing incidents until the media starts asking questions and then an official news release from the Sheriff’s Office will be sent out.

Officials stated the incident took place at a bar in Greensboro while Dixon was working private security on his personal time – not during his official duties working as a jail guard.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Dixon is suspended without pay pending an internal investigation by the GCSO Professional Standards Division.

No additional details were released about the alleged assault, the location beyond “a bar in Greensboro,” or any injuries involved. The Sheriff’s Office said there will be no further information shared at this time.
