Contec Industrial Automation Solutions – an international engineering firm that specializes in automating industrial processes and equipment – has selected Greensboro as the site for its newest sales and engineering office.

The company provides a wide range of services to various business sectors such as the food and beverage industry, petrochemicals and consumer goods.

This latest addition to the really large number of companies who are choosing Guilford County for economic expansion will lead to the creation of 24 jobs in Greensboro, which the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce says are very good jobs.

It will also mean an investment of a quarter of a million dollars – not the largest addition to the tax base in recent years but every new company that comes to Greensboro helps put the city on the radar.

The five-year string of economic successes has some people in Greensboro and Guilford County wondering if all this growth is such a great idea.  The shortage of houses, the growing traffic and the encroachment of developments on the rural areas of Guilford County have some residents saying there’s almost been too much economic development success.

However, elected leaders and economic development officials are going to keep trying to attract companies and, in recent years, they deserve an A-plus for the success of their efforts.

According to a statement from the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce “Contec’s investment will “further support the local economy and cementing Greensboro’s position as a key hub for advanced industrial automation.”

Christopher Chung, CEO of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina welcomed Contec to the Greensboro area and said he looks forward to the company’s continued success and explained why Contec and so many others are choosing the Greensboro area and Guilford County.

“Our highly skilled workforce, which includes the largest manufacturing workforce in the Southeast, and workforce development programs attract companies, such as Contec IAS, from all over the world,” he said in the wake of Contec’s decision. “Contec IAS’s presence strengthens our robust community of innovative manufacturing companies and international businesses.”

Koen De Pryck, president of the company, said they picked Greensboro for their North American sales and engineering headquarters because of the city’s rich talent pool and its commitment to innovation as well as its strong efforts to help businesses grow. De Pryck also pointed to the “collaborative spirit within the local engineering community,” and Greensboro’s strategic location and resources

The company president said all that made Greensboro “the perfect place for us to grow and thrive.”

Contec will open its Greensboro office this month at the Centreport Office Park (pictured above) and the company is currently looking to hire automation engineers and application engineers.

Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan is, of course, happy to be the mayor presiding over all this economic development success including this latest win for the city.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Contec IAS to our dynamic community of talented professionals,” she said in a prepared statement. “Greensboro’s vibrant engineering scene, driven by innovation and collaboration, offers an exceptional environment for growth and success. I can’t wait to see the positive impact this firm will have in our city.”

Skip Alston, the chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners said after the announcement that the county and city “take great pride in the rich tapestry of diverse companies and cultures that shape Guilford County.”

“Welcoming global businesses like Contec IAS not only strengthens our local economy but also continues to place our community on the world map,” the chairman said. “We’re dedicated to fostering these relationships, ensuring a bright and prosperous future for all of us.”

According to Brent Christensen, the president and CEO of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, Contec’s decision to put the office in Greensboro is an obvious endorsement of the city’s strengths.

“Their investment creates high-quality jobs and reinforces Greensboro’s position as a leader in advanced industrial automation,” Christensen said.

The Guilford County Economic Development Alliance – consisting of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and High Point Economic Development Corporation – worked together on the project with the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, North Carolina Department of Commerce, the City of Greensboro, Guilford County, Senator Thom Tillis, North Carolina A&T State University, Guilford Technical Community College, Guilford Works, Duke Energy, Piedmont Natural Gas, and Cushman & Wakefield.

Promotional material for the company states, “For Contec, automation means more than just improving processes and machines. In all projects, Contec strives for substantial added value for the economy, people, and community. As a company, they are firmly convinced that automation creates space for more meaningful jobs and more job satisfaction for employees in companies. This is how Contec wants to transform tomorrow’s industry today.”
