There’s been yet another big drug bust in Guilford County. So far this year alleged drug dealers have been going to jail at a very fast clip and there was another bust this week that got some dangerous drugs off the street.

A major narcotics investigation carried out by the newly formed Guilford County Narcotics Task Force has resulted in the federal indictment of a Greensboro man following the seizure of large quantities of illegal drugs and firearms earlier this year.

According to a press release issued Wednesday, June 4 by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, the task force executed a narcotics-related search warrant on Thursday, March 13 at a Greensboro residence.

During that search, officers seized 385 grams of cocaine, 353 grams of fentanyl and two firearms.

The operation led to the arrest of 33-year-old Brandon Lamont Bates on several state charges, including possession of controlled substances, narcotics trafficking and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Following further investigation, Bates was federally indicted on Wednesday, May 28 on the following charges:

  • Possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, in violation of Title 21 United States Code sections 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(B)
  • Maintaining a residence for the purpose of manufacturing, distributing, and using fentanyl, in violation of 21 U.S.C. 856(a)(1)
  • Possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, in violation of 18 U.S.C. 924(c)(1)(A)(i)
  • Felon in possession of firearms, in violation of 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8)

Bates was taken into federal custody on Tuesday, June 3, and is currently being held without bond at the Guilford County Detention Center in Greensboro.

The operation was the result of a coordinated effort between the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, Greensboro Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities noted that the investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
