Some Greensboro residents will walk away with new shoes, clothes or even cleaning supplies on Saturday, July 26 – all while enjoying free food and music.
The City of Greensboro’s Community Safety Department is teaming up with the Black Men United organization to host a Community Giveaway and Resource Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church at 408 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Greensboro.
Organizers say the event is meant to provide practical help – including new clothing, household goods and personal care items – while also connecting people to local nonprofits and service providers.
Several community-based organizations will be on site to talk with attendees about the support and resources they offer.
According to the city, the Community Safety Department is focused on a very holistic and prevention-based approach to public safety.
That includes things like crisis response teams, violence interruption efforts – and long-term support for people dealing with issues such as addiction, homelessness or untreated mental illness.
The event is free and open to the public.
Black Men United is a non-profit focused on providing community service and empowerment, particularly within the black community. The group is known for initiatives like securing full-time employment for youth and organizing community events with resources and giveaways.
Black Men United emphasizes a “boots on the ground” approach and has made a commitment prioritizing community well-being.

Black Men United sounds like they’re doing God’s work. Thanks for highlighting this effort Chris.
Another city giveaway. My tax dollars or Black Men United personal funds?
Guilford County has given the group some taxpayer money in the new county budget.
