The Guilford County Black Caucus is holding two public forums this month to give voters a chance to hear directly from the candidates running in Greensboro’s municipal elections.
The first forum will take place Thursday, Oct. 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the International Civil Rights Center & Museum in downtown Greensboro. That event will feature mayoral and at-large candidates.
The second forum is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 15, also from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the same location. That forum will focus on candidates running in Districts 1 through 5.
Both events are open to the public, and the caucus says it’s encouraging residents to attend and bring questions for those seeking office.
The Black Caucus, chaired by Chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners Skip Alston, is sponsoring the events.
Other officers include Vice Chair Deena Hayes-Greene, Treasurer Frankie Jones, and Secretary Carlvena Foster.
Members of the caucus include elected officials and community leaders such as Bettye Jenkins, Michael Holmes, Hugh Holston, Avery Crump, Larry Archie, Lora Cubbage, Lisa Johnson-Tonkins, Danny H. Rogers, Teresa Vincent, Cyril Jefferson, Jamilla Pinder and Amos Quick.
The forums come as early voting for Greensboro’s municipal elections draws closer, and they are likely to draw significant attention as candidates work to reach voters in the final weeks before Election Day.

When is the White caucus holding it’s candidate forums??
I bet everyone reading this is calling me a racist. OH, the hypocrisy!!
My thoughts exactly!
my thoughts are broken
I was wondering the same thing.
Amen. And look at the names on this board. Members of Democrat-controlled school board, county commissioners, and city council.
If we are to be ONE city with UNITED GOALS, why is there a separate, biased black caucus?? Pay attention and you’ll see who divides us. As Charlie Kirk said, “It’s unity, not diversity, that will make us great.”
Democrats are champions at creating division!!’
yes, they are. From Washington to Guilford County, they all march in lock-step.
i KNOW diversity makes us great.
Diversity is tearing the country apart. Don’t believe the spin about diversity is our strength; it is our failure. How to fix it? I have no idea.

It seems to me that what constitutes racism is in the eye of the beholder. Some people even assert that just acknowledging the differences between the races is racism. That’s silly, but then so are the people who believe that.
Nope you are not a racist. Time to stand up to this communist racism.
Yes, you are a hypocrat. The LEFT is using the oldest trick in the book: “divide and conquer”.
my left left & can’t find it anywhere – right or center.. it’s UP ? i am a hypocrap & below all this.
You mean the Republican caucus where black voters are not considered since they only make up low single digit percentages of republican registered voters? That caucus?
[Not all Republicans are racist. But most racists are republicans.]
—————-
More childish name calling from Chris.
Yawn.
By your comment chris I consider not all people as ignorant but most registered liberal democrats are ignorant
My first Presidential election was Goldwater-Johnson. I registered as a Democrat because there were no Republican primaries. I am not ignernt.
Says guy who is a member of a party that uses conspiracy theories to direct public health policy in direct conflict with long established medical science. The willful ignorance of our modern conservative administration is an embarrassment to the US at a minimum and will leave us trailing more data and fact-based leadership of other countries, including China.
The dumbing down of America at the hands of Trump and team by canceling federal research grants, cutting foreign student visas, canceling investments in clean energy, conspiracy-based health policies, and violating 1st amendment freedoms of government scientific agencies make me proud to call myself a Democrat after decades of having voted Republican.
Facts/Science over Lies = Democrats Lies on top of more Lies = Republicans
Chris you flop back and forth more than a fish out of water. Not so many months ago you said you weren’t aligned with either party. What a Wanker
Nope. I was independent until this current administration that has gone so far right that I can’t ever see voting republican ticket again. They don’t even try to fiscally responsible anymore to save face on their awful short sighted social policies. Would certainly consider voting for a moderate conservative but they have all been run out of the party, so all hope is lost. Go Blue.
i’m ignorant as a clam, but not your clam
most racists are religion fundamentalists with < education & culture
ditto. i am a member of the midget caucus.
Looks like ole chrissy was a closet Biden supporter all along. Chrissy do you have any other closet secrets you want to “come out “ with.
Skip I have a question for you. I just saw that the Downtown Children’s Museum has an average of 100k to 135k visitors a year Could you please tell us the number of paying visitors to the civil rights museum last year. I don’t think the Children’s Museum gets taxpayer dollars
Racist organization, go to hel——.
Perhaps white people, as well as other POC, should go to this caucus. Just because you don’t color-match doesn’t mean you can’t attend.
Are you promoting DEI? Don’t tell Trumpnyou believe in diversity for a caucus.
Chris I know you’re opposed to the number of blacks that are incarcerated, that you feel it’s racist and biased. I’d like you to pull up today’s Guilford County jail’s current inmates population and tell us what you find. Particularly the first 25 people. I hope you will also notice the the Guilford County jail only lists two nationalities. Wanna guess
White and black/african American. No Hispanics. I find that a bit curious. Why do you think that is
Not sure why you think Guilford County only tracks two races of those incarcerated in Guilford County? Quick internet search provided the following:
Incarcerated population in Guilford County, based on 2024 data from the Vera Institute, are as follows:
African American 50% of jail population (23% of general population)
White: 41% of the jail population (62% of the general population)
Latinx: 6% of the jail population (11% of the general population)
Asian American/Pacific Islander: less than 1% of the jail population (4% of the general population)
Native American: 2% of the jail population (1% of the general population)
And yes policing in the US has a strong history of racial basis with the courts statistically handing down harsher sentences for minorities.

Just a followup Chris why not pull up the site I spoke of read the names and nationality that’s listed and then tell me what you find.
You didn’t provide a link and I found the studies before finding your link.
Happy to read if you can provide a link.
These two candidate forums will be biased to the left as we have seen in other forums. Any candidate other than a Democrat party backed candidate needs their brain checked to participate in these two forums. Questions will be biased, moderators will be biased, and the audience will be biased. Those who are being affected in a negative way by the present leadership in Greensboro need a wake-up call. You are being sold a bill of hurt by the D team but you continue to buy what they are selling.
1,) 2023 homicides set records levels in Greensboro. Where were most of the deaths?
2.) The Milken economic index of the 200 largest metropolitan areas in the USA had the Greensboro area falling from 106 to 187 the last two years. A terrible drop and who do you think is getting hit the hardest?
3.) The property tax went up on average 27% in 2022 due to revaluations and could go up 47% in 2026. Those property taxes are passed thru to guess who ? Renters and all property owners with vehicles and houses. In 2022, Greensboro had one of the highest single bedroom rent increases in the USA. Guilford County has the 4th highest eviction rate at 14% of the 100 NC counties. Guess where most of the evictions are occurring? Compare the property tax rates of the 3 largest NC counties. Guilford at $0.73/$100 with median household income at $66,000. Wake st $0.40/$100 at $103,000 median household income. Meck at $0.53/$100 at $85,000 median household income. Yep, And Greensboro City residents pay about $1.40/$100. Homelessness is up 42% in our area over the last two years vs Wake and Meck around 8%. Guess which area is being affected the most in Greensboro?
4.) Guilford County has the highest number of foster children out of tfe 200 counties in NC. Guess again.
The D team runs the Guilford County Commissioners, School Board, and Greensboro City Council.
Keep on voting them in and see what happens based on history.
Only 3% of Greensboro voters have voted in the primary thru Saturday. Your last chance to vote in the primary is Tuesday. Vote in your precinct from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm on Tuesday. You can go to NCSBE.GOV and click on voter search followed by entering your name and county. When you scroll down, you will see your sample ballot and where you vote in your precinct. You can also see if your ballot was accepted after voting.,
Vote now folks!! The time us now!!
Vote smart business minded people to get us out of this hole that has been dug.
Robbie Perkins Astor
Carla Franklin and Richard Besrd At Large ( vote only two.)
District 2 Jim Kee
District 3 Zack Metheny
District 4 Nicky Smith ( vote the business leader over the lawyer)
God bless our community !!! Vote!!
i just voted @ st benedict’s. gingersnaps ! can i bike around to various polling places to evaluate cookies ?
Chris I’m really surprised that as smart as you think you are that you would not just do a goggle search for Guilford County inmate roster. Hmmm makes me wonder but, you be you.
Let me know how many Hispanics you find listed
this forum is great fun ! how many commenters do you have, scott ? i have been ‘disinvited’ by “the community” @ two echo chambers: fox & yahoo
The claims a Black Caucus is racist is classic whitewashing BS from conservatives to deflect their party’s current bigotry and racial bias.
Special interest groups have a long history in US politics. To ignore that African Americans have special interests given the impact of decades of racism is to whitewash the remaining impact of our history of racism such as the trappings of poverty, crime, housing access and career access. In addition, conservatives will cry racism as a means to deflect from the current racism that is resurging here in the US. (Nazi flags at Trump rallies, white nationalism gaining national visibility online, the propaganda misrepresenting the purpose of DEI or woke policies, etc…)
The primary definition of racism that is missing from a group like the Black Caucus is that the purpose of the group is to achieve equity and representation, not supremacy or prejudice. The caucus focuses on advancing policy solutions – like protecting voting rights, eliminating racial health disparities, and ensuring economic opportunity. The policies would benefit all marginalized communities. Advocating for a a historically excluded group to attain equal treatment is a pursuit of justice, not bigotry.
The attack on DEI is an attack on the gains made by marginalized communities and justifies the importance of groups like the Black Caucus. Many of the comments here show the ignorance that further shows the importance of such groups.
Best wishes.
Hopefully you saw the newspaper article written by Kevin Griffin published in the October 3, 2025 edition of the GB News & Record titled ‘What if Trump sent National Guard to Greensboro.’ Mr. Griffin identified the party affiliation of the candidates running for office in Greensboro. He said that all of the candidates who said they would oppose President were democrats and that the Republican candidates and 1 Unaffiliated candidate did not answer the question.
I wrote Mr. Griffin asking why he did this since the election is, by law, a non-partisan election and that all campaign literature and ballots do not include party affiliation. I told him this exposed his political bias. Mr Griffin responded saying “I mentioned the party affiliation of the candidates in order to give some context on their backgrounds.” He added “In this case, it also seemed to be particularly relevant because the question was related to national politics.” He also said I could submit my letter to him as a Letter to the Editor. So I did. It was published in the October 7th edition of the N&R. Allen Johnson is the Editorial Page Editor. The title of my LTE was changed from Bias Reporting to ‘Not a partisan election.
Poor old dems. They and their liberal collaborators in the media just won’t or can’t seem to be Fair and Balanced in their reporting.
i have created (all on paper) a midget caucus & formed a non-profit from donations from very short. hidden people
