The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office has announced that on Wednesday, June 25, the Guilford County Narcotics Task Force, working with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, concluded a narcotics investigation and nabbed two people and over two pounds of fentanyl.

One of those arrested was a teacher at Southern Guilford Middle School: Saadia Marie-Denise Owen, 32, (pictured above) was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Felony Level 3 Trafficking Fentanyl (2 counts)
  • Felony Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling for the Keeping or Selling of Controlled Substances

According to the Sheriff’s Office, at the time of her arrest, Owen was a teacher at Southern Guilford Middle School located on Drake Road in Greensboro.

She’s now being held in the Rowan County jail under a secured bond of $3 million.

In all, the busts got 1,250 grams of fentanyl off the streets.

Also arrested as part of the investigation was Jordan Allen Jefferson, a 37-year-old male who was hit with these charges:

  • Felony Aiding and Abetting (3 counts)
  • Felony Level 3 Trafficking Fentanyl
  • Felony Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling for the Keeping or Selling of Controlled Substances
  • Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Jefferson is currently being held under no bond in the Guilford County jail in Greensboro.

There have been a whole lot of high-profile drug arrests in Guilford County in the first half of 2025. Often those busts have involved a lot of state and area agencies working together.

Recently, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office announced the formation of a new “Guilford County Narcotics Task Force” along with other area law enforcement agencies.  That new law enforcement entity was officially announced by Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rogers and Greensboro Police Chief John Thompson at a press conference on Monday, June 2.

The Task Force consists of the Sheriff’s Office, the Greensboro Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the NC State Bureau of Investigation.

There was already a great deal of cooperation among area law enforcement agencies to fight drugs before those efforts were solidified into an official task force to fight the sale and distribution of cocaine, opioids and other illegal drugs.

According to a Thursday, June 26 statement from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, “Reducing fentanyl-related overdoses and deaths remains a core objective of the Guilford County Narcotics Task Force. This seizure may have saved lives and sends a strong message to those trafficking deadly drugs in our community.”

The office also stated that, since this is an ongoing investigation, no further information will be provided at this time.

Of course there is an added level of concern in this situation since one of those arrested worked with middle school students.
