The colorful Guilford County sheriff who likes wearing purple hats and pink vests now some squad cars that match some of his fancy clothing. If you spot a bright pink or purple Guilford County Sheriff’s Office patrol car cruising down the road this month, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you.
The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office has two unusually colorful patrol cars to draw attention to two important causes during October.
The pink car recognizes Breast Cancer Awareness Month, while the purple car recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Sheriff Danny Rogers put the vehicles on display for the public and the media on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Sheriff’s Office headquarters at 401 W. Sycamore St. in downtown Greensboro.
The idea behind the colorful vehicles is to bring attention to and encourage conversations about two serious issues affecting residents throughout Guilford County and across the country. The Guilford County Board of Commissioners has also recognized both causes. Last October, commissioners proclaimed Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month – emphasizing the importance of early cancer detection and supporting victims of abuse.
The commissioners will pass another resolution recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month at their Thursday, Oct. 15 meeting.
The county’s largest ongoing effort to assist victims of domestic violence is the Guilford County Family Justice Center, which operates locations in both Greensboro and High Point. The center brings together law enforcement, legal professionals, victim advocates and other agencies to help victims obtain protective orders, develop safety plans, find shelter and access other services. At their Oct. 1 meeting, county commissioners approved an agreement with Greensboro to continue funding a Family Justice Center navigator position that helps connect people with those services.
Those seeking help can contact the Family Justice Center at 336-641-7233.

Great reporting, Mr. Yost!
And what did those paint jobs cost the Guilford County taxpayers?
Whatever the amount, it was a waste of our money. And the violence continues unabated without any real solutions or meaningful consequences being offered.
You got that right!. Someone was assaulted on September 16, 2026 by a neighbor. Trustpassed, and made damages to the property. The Guilford county’s Sherrif’s office not only did not take the neighbor in, but impersonated another Officer, and harassed the victim the rest of that week. Give me a break they do not care or regard the elderly!
domestic violence research update: why did this happen so often in 2025: ‘she just wouldn’t shut up’ !
Yes, these are two very important causes to support! But this example is silly at best and another perfect example of Guilford County wasting citizen’s tax dollars.
While I agree both of these need to be highlighted, there has to be a better way to get the awareness out to the public. The monies spent on the paint jobs could have been better spent to get awareness out to more individuals. It is this kind of senseless spending that must be curtailed. Guildford County needs to address their Fiscal Policy.
Yet another childish and self invested display to distract from the poor governance by elected officials in Guilford County.
At this point, who actually expects our government to spend money wisely????
Another reason to vote for Phil Byrd for Guilford County Sheriff. Early voting begins Thursday, October 15.
I can only hope that maybe these are “wraps”?
But, hey, there is another VERY IMPORTANT CAUSE that happens in November and it never gets recognition. DIABETES AWARENESS MONTH!!! Can we get some representation for that???? I have struggled with Type 1 diabetes for 50!!!!! Years. Diabetics get pushed aside EVERY year. Type 1 diabetes is not something that anyone can help. Just like breast cancer. It deserves the recognition and research that Breast Cancer Awareness gets EVERY month, not just October.
Maybe give THAT some recognition for NOVEMBER!!!
