The Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and other area groups were treated to an inspirational talk by Simon T. Bailey – one of the world’s best-known motivational speakers.

Bailey delivered the keynote address at the chamber’s Leadership Conference Tuesday at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center.

Event attendees included Leadership Greensboro alumni, members of the synerG Young Professionals Leadership Council, public and private school educators from across Guilford County, and managers from area non-profits and businesses.

Bailey, who’s a success coach, author and philanthropist, states that his main purpose in life is “to help you discover your brilliance.”

He says that every person on the planet has “brilliance” inside them but that  brilliance “often gets buried by society’s rigid rules on how we are allowed to use our talents and abilities.”

Bailey has worked as a motivator for over 2,000 companies in 50 different countries.

One of his Facebook videos – in which he argues that relationships are more important than money –  has over 87 million views.

The day-long conference at Grandover brought together community leaders from a variety of walks of life to learn about organizational culture, inclusive practices, bias and other best practices.

Greensboro Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Brent Christensen said after the event that it was an honor to hear from “so many great speakers from our community and beyond.”

Christensen added that, in Greensboro, there’s a history of successful leadership development and he said he saw this conference as a continuation of that tradition.

“This conference grew out of our 40-plus-year history of leadership training programs, including Leadership Greensboro and Other Voices, at the Chamber,” he said.

Also at the conference, Garrick Throckmorton, the chief product and services officer at Throckmorton Leadership Consulting, led a session titled, “What is Culture and Why Should I Care?”

In addition, Tiffany Tate, the CEO and founder of Career Maven Consulting, spoke on “Bias at Work: Activating Inclusive Practices.”

Emcee Ivey Ghee, the CEO and founder of The Hospitality G, moderated the conference.
