If you get tired of shopping for Christmas presents in this hectic holiday season, Guilford County Soil and Water Conservation District wants you to know that it’s also the time of year to start shopping for something else: trees and other plants.
Each year, Guilford County Soil and Water Conservation District holds its annual tree sale, and it’s already time to pre-order for the 2022 event that will take place next month. When people go to vote and see candidates running for Guilford County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors, a lot of them wonder what exactly they do. Well one of the many things they do is hold a tree sale every winter.
This year, they have both White Pines and Loblolly Pines available for purchase – as well as five hardwood species: Black Cherry, Flowering Dogwood, Persimmon, Eastern Redbud and Red Maple. They are also selling other items meant to spruce up a garden or landscape including birdboxes and packets of wildflower seeds.
Staff at the Guilford County Agricultural Center are now accepting preorders and anyone who wants to be assured of getting something before supplies run out should go ahead and call.
The sale and pickup period will start on Monday, Jan. 24 and run until Friday, Jan. 28 at the Guilford County Ag Center at 3309 Burlington Road in Greensboro.
Hardwoods are $2 each and the pines are $7 for bundles of 20.
In addition to plants, there are also Bluebird boxes for $20 and Wood Duck boxes for $40.
There is limited availability for the birdboxes so county officials ask that you phone ahead before sending in orders. The number to call is 336-641-2440.
For the sale of the trees and other items, the county is only accepting cash and checks as payment. Credit cards and IOUs will not do the trick.
Also, keep in mind that anyone who chooses to pre-order also needs to pre-pay.
Orders not picked up by Friday, Feb. 4, will be resold without a refund.
