The City of Greensboro is seeking proposals from community organizations aimed at reducing violence and strengthening public safety through locally led initiatives.
The city’s Community Safety Department has issued a Request for Proposals for a range of anti-violence programs – with funding that’s provided through a federal Department of Justice grant focused on community violence intervention and prevention.
The funding is meant to support organizations already working on the ground in Greensboro neighborhoods as well as groups with new or expanded ideas for addressing violence.
According to the RFP, proposals must clearly fit into one or more of several designated focus areas. These include group violence intervention and interruption, education and skills building, community cohesion and engagement, awareness and outreach efforts, and community responses to violence.
Additional eligible categories include direct intervention activities, restorative justice programs, healing and mental wellness initiatives, reentry services for people returning from incarceration, and services for victims of violence.
City officials have set a firm deadline for submissions.
All proposals have to be received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Organizations interested in applying should note that attendance at a mandatory RFP workshop is required in order to be eligible for city funding.
The required workshop will be held virtually at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
City staff will review the RFP requirements, explain the application process, and answer questions from potential applicants. Agencies that are unable to attend the workshop on February 4 may contact the Community Safety Department prior to that date to request an alternate meeting time.
This RFP is part of the city’s broader effort to address violence through prevention and intervention strategies rather than enforcement alone. By directing federal grant dollars to community-based programs, the city is emphasizing approaches that focus on engagement, support services and long-term solutions.
Additional information about the RFP, including details on how to join the virtual workshop, is available on the city’s website at www.greensboro-nc.gov/csd/rfp.
Organizations with questions may also contact the Community Safety Department by email at CommunitySafetyDepartment@greensboro-nc.gov or by phone at 336-373-2082.
City officials are encouraging interested agencies to review the RFP carefully and begin preparing proposals well in advance of the February deadline.

Waste of time and money
ditto
No need for this, simply increase penalties for the crime and apply it fairly. Then make it mandatory to graduate from High School and go on to higher education, and attend a religious class while in school.
The moral fabric of our society needs to be repaired and this would help.
God Bless America
i attended many ‘religious’ classes in parochial schools & now, well educated, call religions mythologies & preachers hucksters. ‘a sucker is born every second. what religion do you recommend out of thousands to choose from – what ‘messiah’ out of the hundreds of claimants ?
Does the “Community Safety Department” have no clue? This appears to be but another fluff job as the city and county have numerous ” programs” doing the same thing just under a different name. Sadly appears to be another piss in the wind program that only benefits those asking for the tax dollars.
This stuff can and should be taught it public (government) schools. Instead of indoctrination.
Transfer of wealth program. Latisha McNeil is handing out free money.
ditto but money ain’t free
….unless you’re the Federal Government. Then you can create it at will, out of thin air.
And that’s the problem. “Quantative Easing” was an exercise in deception.
“Quantative Easing” is a cover word for……..INFLATION. The most cruel tax of all. Nobody voted for it; but they really did, by demanding free stuff from the govt. And the polys are happy to give it to them.
Kash can be King, in the short term, but is a big loser further out.
Let the police do their job without council & mayor interference! Flood neighborhoods with high crime rates with police! This will cut crime and save lives.
President Trump has already demonstrated what actions will reduce crime. First, take it seriously, second arrest those who commit the crimes, third, put them in jail and leave them there until time is satisfied. All “feel good” actions only invite more crime. Perps need to know they will go to jail. Being poor is not a license to steal from others, nor is it an excuse to be a criminal. President Lincoln said it well: (I paraphrase), Tearing down the rich does not help the poor. Do you know any poor person who built a factory and employed hundreds? If you have wealth, what you do with it is how others, including our Lord, will see you. I am an example that the important thing in life is to learn a marketable skill, use that to build upon and amount to SOMETHING in your life. It is not always someone else’s fault that you become a low-life. Do not allow drugs or alcohol to determine your path in life, and do consider who you hang with, a bad influence will not help your efforts. Be responsible for your life, you cannot take credit for your success if you fail to take responsibility for your failures. This is how it works.
What has Trump done to increase arrests other than ICE? Sending in the National guard didn’t increase arrests. It was just an embarrassment to have a president use US military against US citizens.
The idea isn’t to tear down the Rich, but to have them pay their fair share given they benefit the most from government programs, include things like SNAP that allow them to pay below living wages. The other idea is to remove money from politics as no politician cares about everyday people anymore. They just work to please their mega donors.
You have been conned.
Chris, I will not have been conned until I begin to accept your train of thought on almost anything.
And tell us oh Dummy, what is the exact number for that “fair share” that would satisfy you and all the leeches out there? The government has plenty of money. They just waste it on projects like this. So dumb.
Well, Chris, I guess you’ve got nothing, just like you never replied when I called out your “research paper” about the “black names” and jobs. I sense a trend.

He’s sly and slippery Don, as you know, but when he’s finally cornered or caught in a lie – WHOOSH ! – he disappears and never comments in the same thread again.
What a pretentious charlatan.
Yes, he is indeed.
anyone paying employees NC minimum wage are engaging in a form of slavery because taxpayers are ‘enslaved’ to fund basic needs programs.
Markl can you name a few companies in NC that actually pay employees the federal minimum wage ALL fast food or convenience stores pay well above that. I have a friend that owns a road safety co. He pays people to hold traffic flagging signs for road projects $18 an hour. It’s really old hearing about NC workers getting paid minimum wage
what are migrants paid in fields, slaughter/poultry houses & factories & how many ‘man hours’ @ what pay ? i will check internet statistics for NC. what are child/elderly care wages look like ? i may b wrong u may b wrong we may both b right tomorrow i’m gonna get right tonight !
Chris if you’re interested and want to see what President Trump’s plan has accomplished just pull up the crime statistics for DC last year (2025) and look at the drop in crimes over previous years and also there has only been 1 murder in 2026 in DC
I’m sure you can provide an essay to explain this.
Markl. I checked all of the ones you listed and I’m saying you are full of crap. Respond if you can.
People are responsible for their own actions.
Now you can watch McNeill and company hand out free money to their friends. Cure Violence, One Step Further, and all other DEI/MWBE cronies, step on up.
This is an effort to appear to be doing something while doing nothing while wasting taxpayer money. Cases in point: 1) Guilford College offers academic and community-based restorative justice initiatives. The Community and Justice Studies program include hands-on projects, such as participatory action research with local restorative justice efforts, where students collaborate with residents, city officials, and police to develop strategies for healthier, safer communities. 2) JPS 262: Restorative Justice, which examines restorative and transformative justice theories and practices in schools, prisons, and communities, comparing them with the retributive U.S. criminal justice system. 3) TRIAD RESTORATIVE JUSTICE, based in North Carolina, provides restorative programs for youth and families, including Impact Circles, RESTART, and PeaceBuilders & Justice, with a focus on improving communication, conflict resolution, and family relationships. Their programs are available to schools and juvenile justice systems and are supported by community contributions.
Isn’t AI terrific?
Why spend more taxpayer money when the aforementioned community-based restorative justice initiatives already exist? What this tells me is that Latisha McNeil, manager of the City’s Office of Community Safety, does not know and does not understand her job description and has no idea what she is doing and occupies her desk chair for show. If the city goes forward with this RFP, fire Latisha McNeil because she not needed.
Most of our City & County govt is not needed. Cushy jobs and make-work for the faithful.
The rise of Latisha McNeil in Greensboro City Government started the same month City Manager Taiwo Jaiyeoba “unexpectedly” resigned…
Always wondered about the origins behind that domestic dispute at his house.
Hmmm.
Are you suggesting that Latisha McNeil was the woman involved in the former City Manager Taiwo Jaiyeoba’s sudden departure from the City of Greensboro and that her rise to her economic justice position, Office of Community Safety, was due to avoidance of a lawsuit by the City of Greensboro? Well, certainly, the City of Greensboro City Council and department managers are not going to tell. But the rank and file know. So, let’s hear it. Is she?

The City now has so much cash that it’s asking jobless do-gooders to line up for free money. What systemic profligacy.
If you check out the latest (Jan.) issue of The Gist, Greensboro’s City monthly magazine, you’ll notice something strange. The Greensboro City Council of 9 people now comprises 6 blacks, 2 “AWFUL” ( Affluent White Female Urban Liberals)… and just one white male.
Furthermore, the puff pieces below the headline story glowingly showcase eight people in the photographs. Seven of the eight in the photographs are black.
Some commenter here always says Greensboro should be called Blacksboro. Black political predilections are monolithically Leftist, which is why the Greensboro we knew is rapidly becoming a mini Detroit or Chicago.
Little Portland.
Maine or Oregon? Point?
VOTE! Voter turnout less than 80%. Greensboro is almost 50% minority. Most minority communities organize voting for their candidates. And, enjoy the benifits their elected officials tax the other 60% of the non-voting public.
i am unaffiliated & prevented from cherry picking the ballot. throw in gerrymandering.
Violence prevention? Would you like to meet my two friends, Smith and Wesson?
My friends also Miller, along with Uncle Sam Colt and a host of others. Plenty of ammo to go around
